I think that it should be put in the "Fiction" section.

No the Bible should not banned. It shouldn't be banned anywhere for that matter. If all of the books involving Evolution theories and what not can be found in public libraries, I believe that the Bible should be available everywhere also. Evolution is just as controversial, so shouldn't it be banned also, and only be brought up if a child has a question concerning it? You might say that it is just a theory, but some people take it as the whole truth, just like religion. It seems to me, schools are shoving evolution down kids throats more than christians are shoving religion.

It only becomes controversial to those who make it that way. What if we took everything out of school that was controversial there would be nothing left same if you took it out of the world completely. There is NO way to do it. There's always going to be something someone thinks is controversial. What about homosexuality? What if we rounded up everyone who was a homosexual and took them out of the world and school. Would it still be controversial? Yes, it would. I do feel children should learn about religion when they are old enough to understand it better and can make a decision about which way they want to go. However, when raising kids I feel the need of the parent to induce morals, values and beliefs within children. It gives parents a sense of "doing their parenting duty". At least when the child is older the parent can feel confident they raised them to the best of their ability. Another thing if our "public institutions don't need to promote things so controversial they need to take out history. Why not take everything out of the world and let's all be reduced to nothing. Face it religion isn't going anywhere just like homosexuality. These two issues along with others are going to continue to bring controversy as long as people have opinions about anything going on in the world.

nothing should be banned as far as books - you have freedom of speech and expression and a free will. you do not want to see something then do not look. I also do not think porn should be banned because everyone has the right to choose for themselves what they desire to see. when you help place a ban on something that makes it easier to ban the next thing. today the Bible tomorrow maybe something you read. With your thinking Your trying destroy everything in life that people have fought to have since the beginning of time. Did you know Hitler had pretty much the same idea you sharing today when he demanded book burning. All this religious violence your talking about is because of people like yourself. Your just another person trying to get people to have such a narrow mind and this is an act of control. Public insitutions should promote all kinds of controversial subjects because it creates knowledge which gives wisdom and if this was banned then we all become closed minded and have no other choose then to follow other narrow minded people. has it ever occurred to you that with each thing you have removed is one less thing in life we have. when you take our religious book out of the public the freedom of religion will soon follow then what will be next? maybe our freedom to persue happiness so we ban everything to do with it so now no one can be happy and looking for happiness will be forbidden. becareful what you ask for. You might just get it.

Well, that's about the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. Just because I hate those sappy soap opera like harlequinn romance books and think people who are reading them are sappy losers doesn't mean they should pull that type of book from the shelves of the library.
The public library does not promote the bible or law books or any other book for that matter. The public library is supposed to be a collection of ALL types of books so people have the freedom to choose what they would like to read, research, and/or learn.
The library offers books on Budhism, Hinduism, Wicca, Satanism, Atheism, etc. but the only one you can point out is the friggin Bible! If you want rip away someone's religion from the public library, then you need to want to rip everybody's g*ddamned religion away!
I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOU!!!!

Well first of all, I don't believe in book banning. Period. Regardless of what book.
Secondly, they took prayer out of schools, did it help? Is the world a better place for it?
Do you honestly believe if everyone in the world turned their back on their religion (regardless of what it is) and became atheists, that there would be no more violence? The war in Iraq isn't about religion, it's about oil. Kids aren't shooting each other in schools over religion. They're killing each other because they're sad, lonely, and angry. Perhaps if people had more faith (of whatever they choose) they'd have a little more peace and the world would be LESS violent.
Finally, I find it sad that as a Brit and a Canadian I have to advise an American of YOUR constitutional rights.
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (also the first section of the Bill of Rights) states:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

No, it should not be. Nor should any religious text. Actually, I'm a believer in no book at all being banned, but sticking with religious books only, I think every person has the right to research and decide for themselves. I don't think the government has any more right to tell me what religion I should be than it does to tell me I have to have a religion at all.

I think you asked this question somewhat in jest, but I guess I'll answer it anyway...
Even from a non-religious standpoint, the Bible is the most important piece of literature in the world... and also in English and American literature.
Shakespeare, Milton, all the major poets, they all allude to the Bible.
There are of course important spiritual ramifications as well, but as a historical document, the Bible is more important than any history book found in the school library.

Every religion should have text books in every library, just to give people agood grounding in religions in general. Parents don't teach their children about any other religion than their own, often not even following the rules set down by that one. The library is a place of learning, what better place to learn, unmolested by the views of others.

If you ban the Bible in the library you have to ban all religious books. Including books like Da Vinci Code that is about religion. Including any book that has any mention of religion. That would leave very few books left. If you don't want to read it, don't check it out. If you don't want your children to read it then monitor what they check out. Other people that may be their only source of getting religious materials.

a library is a place to go get books and information. The bible has a right to be there just like the books about government. I think government and Religion should not mix together when ever the people tried to get Jesus involved in politics he would leave.
