We got the bird off the paper, but now he's covered in the sticky goop and we can't get it off. The package said to use soap and water, but it's not helping. What can we do?

Thank you all so much. The peanut butter worked. Now we're letting it dry off before we let it out to see if it can fly. Hopefully it'll be alright. Thanks again!

Fly Paper Strips

I would look on the package of the flypaper and call the 800 number.

If you can't get an answer from the manufacturer or someone else who has had a similar problem, this is what I would advise:

Use liquid hand soap. Put the soap full strength on the area that has the goop, massage it in, then carefullly rinse in water that isn't too cold or too hot.

Be careful not to get the soap in the bird's eyes, nose, or mouth.

Call your local vet and ask for a local wild life person. I can't remember now what they are called, but your vet should have their number, I handed over a badly injured squirrel that was hit by a car, they take in all sorts of animals so contact them, they are better equipped for the job. By the way good job on saving the birdie some people just don't care enough to do that. Also wash your hands, birds have lice and other ickys.

Try carefully cutting the fly paper off the bird's feet. Then soak the bird's feet That might be difficult, because birds dont' like to stay still very long, unless caged. But that might work.

What kind of bird??? Try using dish washing detergent like Dawn. That's what they use to clean water-fowl after an oil spill. Don't get it near the eyes or in the mouth-- Birds are small and just a little bit of ingested detergent could be deadly. DO NOT USE GOO- GONE!!!!!! DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL!!!!!

try using vegetable oil all over the bird, let this soak in before trying to rub it off with a towel. repeat this prcedure many of times, and make sure the bird is eating also, with plenty of liquids, if you dont do this, the bird will go into shock and die.
