If you leave ice cream in the fridge too long, ice crystals form. It's still good, but can I prevent this?

Open ice cream or covered? If its in a box, just let it thaw out for 5 minutes before digging in. If its open, let it thaw out for a little less that that. You can also try placing plastic wrap on the surface of the ice cream to prevent crystals from forming. When you take it out the freezer just remove.

I don't believe that there's a way t prevent this because it naturally happens. Maybe if you buy ice cream in tighter packaging than the crystals won't have enough room to form, but they might be more difficult to find. Try putting it in the fridge for a few minutes before you eat it... The bothersome ice crystals may just fade away as the ice cream slowly melts. Good luck lol

Yep, eat it quickly. If you leave opened ice cream containers in the freezer too long, they will always form ice crystals on the surface. The only way to avoid it is to eat the ice cream before they form.

Not really. It's a natural recrystallization process. Eat the ice cream in less time. No way it'd stick around at my house long enough for this to happen.

Consider covering it with plastic wrap and gently pressing the plastic wrap down onto the ice-cream.

That ice cream is ruined, it melted then re-froze. It does not mean that its ingredients are spoiled. Usually the taste and texture is too sweet or hard.

That`s Freezerburn, I usually throw the stuff out when it comes to that point. It just tastes nasty. My advice:buy pints.

I checked it on google and most of it says to stir it every three hours, but that sounds impractical.

Just eat it.
