paintgirl - The point of this forum is to ask questions.

Elmosgirl - I was forced to read the bible throughout my 12 years of schooling. Never read a more hypocritical, propaganda filled book in all my life. It can be manipulated and twisted to prove anythign you want it to.

I would of thought the Christians would mention how great God is because he could of killed many millions more.

Like: "God was looking out for me In down here in Australia because he might have killed me too"

don't you know aussiechick, the religous folk are truly self-centered at heart(my god is better than yours, etc). It comes down to one common thread though-they are afraid of death.

p.s. I don't have any plans on moving down-under but may come for a visit. I got some moola.

In my life I have had so many ask me what I believe and I had been on a cross-roads for many years. I never heard God speak to me. I have not see any signs. My faith in many things have been destroyed. Man has failed me because man has corrupted everything he has put his hands on. I feel the Bible is no exception. I do not dismiss it but I also do not use it. I do however know that which I feel in my heart. You asked as so many have. where was God when this Tsunami hit. I like to think he was watching after those who had doubt in their lives those who truly needed him. Maybe those who were taken were ready to meet God so he was not needed. Perhaps he was standing be side you keeping you safe of maybe someone close to you. maybe he was watching lost children or even comforting someone afraid to go to the light. It is simple really. God didnt say you have to believe and he didnt say that life would be spared. You can't get to heaven while breath is still in your body and sometimes people will die because no one can live forever. Question not what he does but ask him how you can become understanding. You see he does answer prayers but the thing is either people do not know how to ask or they can not accept how he answers. Some time his answer is no and not because he does not want to give you what you ask for but because he knows that by giving you what you ask could harm you. So if I had to answer this question I would say God was with you. he was trying to help you with something that was burdening you. So think back to that day and run back into your mind and see if something happened that you cant really explain that may have happened to help you and maybe you will see where God was.

God, as I believe Him, created the Earth, and then left us humans with the gift and curse of free will. That means we, as humans, have decided how and where to habitat the Earth. So, God really didn't "do" anything. The tsunami, as well as all other disasters, are part of the Earth. God doesn't choose who will be where when the Earth creates a natural event. God didn't make the affected nations choose not to put in a warning system, God didn't choose for people to live there. I don't know if God could or would ever intervene in any catastrophe, big or small. I do know God is there to comfort those who seek the Spirit within themselves. Perhaps, instead of asking where God was, we should thank ourselves for our quick response, generosity and creativity in facing this tragedy. Those are human traits, given by God for us to use for better or worse. I always find the irony in the way people always ask where was God during a tragedy, but ignore him or mock his existence in their everyday life? Maybe the best that can come for you personally out of this is to reevaluate your personal view and relationship with God.

It's quite ridiculous, when half of the worlds population now days, believes that we make our own choices, and things happen because of mother nature blah blah blah, but yet when a disaster hits, the first person they want to blame is God. First of all God is the creator of all the earth, but he does not create evil. Evil comes from Satan, a fallen angel, who decided he was better than God. Satan is conniving, and knows that he can use sad situations such as the Tsunami to cause unbelief. There are instances such as in the book of Job, where God allowed Satan to destroy Jobs family, property etc. to prove to Satan that Job was loyal to God even when everything was falling out from under him. This could maybe be one of the reasons the Tsunami hit, or maybe everybody needed a wake up call to the chaos we create now days perfectly on our own, even without Satans help.

When a catastrophe strikes, anybody can be affected, and faithfulness to God is not necessarily a factor. During the explosion in Toulouse, which Alain and Liliane escaped, 30 people died and hundreds were injured, even though it was not their fault. On a larger scale, tens of thousands of people are victims of crime, reckless driving, or wars, and God cannot be held responsible for their misfortune. The Bible reminds us that "time and unforeseen occurrence befall" everyone.—Ecclesiastes 9:11.
What is more, humans are subject to sickness, old age, and death. Even some who have thought that God miraculously saved their life or who credited him with an unexpected recovery from their illness eventually came face-to-face with death. The removal of sickness and death and the 'wiping out of every tear' from human eyes are yet in the future.—Revelation 21:1-4.
God helps his servants today, not by delivering them miraculously, but by giving them his holy spirit and "the power beyond what is normal" to cope with whatever situation they may face. (2 Corinthians 4:7) The apostle Paul wrote: "For all things I have the strength by virtue of him who imparts power to me."—Philippians 4:13."
The time is at hand when suffering will be no more;
even the dead will live again. This is what God has promised us.

God is not a person making executive decisions on high. God is spirit and beyond the visual material realm. There were tsunami's on earth long before we showed up so why should things be different now? The fact that we suffer does not disprove God. God is beyond our short lives that go by in an instant.

It's the cycle of life u might say. The human poppulation is growing so rapidly that some "natural disaster" has come to .. stabilise this growing population. Besides, God is only the creation of human beings. When the tsunami came, it's only natural that we blame Him. Of course, God may also have created the tsunami for the benefit of all living things on earth? Humans have been destroying the environment these past few decades... I'm not a christian so i might hve said something contradictory to the bibile or wat not.

He sent the Tsunami to try to tell us "Shape up or you're gonna be destroyed". That's the reason that a lot of bad stuff happens. For example let's pick some bible stories
Noah&the flood- people were being really bad so here came the flood
In the later prophets, we see them telling the people to shape up or G-d's gonna bring bad stuff on you. The people keep messing up, G-d punishes them.
Do you see a pattern here?

I'm not trying to convert anyone, just trying to get people to start acting decently.

Well, do you believe he exists or not? According to your question, he must control everything on the planet in order to prove he exists. If he DID, I dont' think you'd be too happy about that. People would complain that he didn't let them do anything for themselves. Or perhaps he should only control the things that suit your needs? Then we'd all be fighting over who got what they wanted, and who didn't.

It's obvious you dont' believe in him because you're stating that he didnt' come down and stop a natural disaster. So fine right? Then be happy with your belief and dont ask questions?

I would think that God doesn't interfer with the natural laws He created, very often. But think of it this way: many of those people were released from this world into the glorious kingdom of Heaven. So it might not have been bad that they died.

Then again, I'm an atheist. What do I know? :o

He was right there warning everyone. Only the animals listened. When that thing was about to hit, all of the animals in the area started heading for higher ground. Because the rest of us tend to doubt the existance of a God, the people had no way of getting the warning.
