It's meat made into a loaf. You can put bread crumbs in it or crackers, onion, or green pepper and one or two eggs are mixed in to hold the loaf together while baking and egg gives the meatloaf some what of a flavor. You mix in your crumbs, onion or green pepper and egg. some or most people use bread pans so it is a loaf and you may season it I always do and bake it at 350 F for about 45 min to 1 hr or until it is done completely inside to your liking. But if you are smart don't let any pink show in the middle. When or before done you can put ketch up on top for a little more flavor.

It is the mix of pork and beef that keeps the "loaf" moist! I wasn't going to answer this question but since no one has given you the proper recipe for the worlds BEST meatloaf, I will. I feel it is my duty LOL.
ingredients:
2 eggs beaten
3/4 crushed crackers
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup parmeasan cheese
1/2 cup onion
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
1 tsp italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic
1 pound hamburger
1 pound ground sauage (i use jimmy dean)
topping:
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 tbls worcestershire sauce
Mix all meatloaf ingredients, form into loaves. I usually get 2. Mix all topping ungredients top the loaves. Bake for 1 hour on 350.
Oh yeah, you can modify the spices any way you like. I usually add way more onion and cheese

2-1/3 cups coarsely crushed soda crackers (1-1/2 tubes from package)
2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 pound breakfast sausage patties
1 large egg
2 medium onions, chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, minced
3/4 cup ketchup plus 1/4 cup for the top
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. In a heavy-duty, plastic food-storage bag, place the crackers, seal, and roll over with a rolling pin until crushed but not powdery.
2. Take any rings off your fingers and send them to me! In a large bowl, with clean hands, mix together all the ingredients except the 1/4 cup ketchup for the top. Mix thoroughly but lightly, being careful not to pack the meat too much. Place in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan and shape into a loaf. Cover with aluminum foil.
3. Bake in the 325 degree oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil. Spread the top of the loaf with the 1/4 cup ketchup. Bake, uncovered, another 60 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Amish Meatloaf
2 pounds ground beef
2 1/2 cups crushed butter-flavored crackers
1 small onion, chopped
2 eggs
3/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 slices bacon
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
1/2 cup brown sugar

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, mix together ground beef, crushed crackers, onion, eggs, 3/4 cup ketchup, and 1/4 cup brown sugar until well blended. Press into a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Lay the two slices of bacon over the top.
Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until cooked through. While the loaf bakes, mix together the remaining 1 cup ketchup, vinegar, salt, mustard and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Spread over the top of the meat loaf for the last 15 minutes of baking.

You get some hamburger and rip up bread mix it in a bowl with some eggs. Then put it in a loaf pan and cook it at 350 for 10 or 15 minutes. A good sauce on it is ketchup with brown sugar.
