The Thai Baht is currently 38 - 1 US $ and depending on what you write on your arrivals card and customs declaration form you should have at least 1,000 Thai Baht per day that you will be staying. If you are on a tight budget then don't forget the airport departure tax for when you depart the country. You will also need a return or ongoing ticket and it is a good idea to have a credit card as a backup.
You can live and stay here dirt cheap and it depends on how budget minded you are personaly. Also the time of year and the part of Thailand that you are visiting will be a key factor regarding costs. If you arrive and plan to stay in a resort area durring the high season then you should plan to have at least double the spending money compared to the backpacker style accommidation during the low season.
Try posting where you would like to visit and spend the most time in Thailand. Include what time of year you are planning to visit and maybe a basic idea of what kind of accommidation you have in mind. If you want more accurate advice and recommendations it's hard for us local residents to be helpfull when questions are so broad.

It really depends on what you plan to do in Thailand. If you don't plan for shopping, I think 500 baths per day should be fine. If you plan to do some shopping, I think you need twice more than that. Public transportation costs you no more than 30 baths for one time, within city. ... Sorry, where are we? You don't need money to go through Thai customs. (Or I have never paid for that.) You need 500 baths airport tax when you do an international departure flight. You can use your ATM cards in Thailand, and Thai shops and restaurants accept credit cards.

Be sure to keep 500baht in your pocket for the departure tax, payable as you exit Thailand.
Daily expenses depend completely on your travel style. If you are an enlightened traveller, and eat, sleep, travel, as a local would, you should budget 1000bt per day. That's assuming you're moving around alot in-country. If you're just staying in one town, or one area, cost will be less. If you must have western-style fast "food" and tourist-class facilities, you will pay much more, see much less, and miss the whole point of Asia travel.

Nope, no minimum to bring. You can use credit card and ATM to get money within Thailand, so there is no minimum.
