If my pizza is to hot I use a fork and knife. Other than that I eat it by hand.
Differnent countries have different styles of eating. It is not right or wrong - it is just how they are.
Why is America still not using the metric system? The metric system is a lot more efficient and we are about the only ones on the planet that won't adopt it. Does that mean that we are all ridiculous? Maybe. We are used to doing things a certain way and don't want to change.
In America, we cut our meat by holding down the meat with the fork in the left hand, and sawing it with a knife in the right. Then we put down the knife, have the left hand give the fork to the right hand and then use the fork to eat the pieces we just cut.
In Europe they don't do this. It saves time. Instead of switching the fork to the other hand - they leave it in the left. The knife does not have to be put down and can now be used to help the left hand skewer things or move things around the plate.
America started switching hands with the fork because in the revolutionary time - they had to have soldiers stay in their houses and the knives were a lot sharper then. The british soldiers, fearing for their lives, made the colonists adopt that habit.
Does this mean that Americans just want to make more work for them selves by continuing to carry on this habit? Does it mean we are ridiculous? I don't think so. It is just the way we are all used to eating.
Same with the French. They eat pizza how they think they should in their country. We should eat it how we like in our country.

Many use a fork and knife because the pizza is too hot for their hands. But for fried chicken also is it acceptable to eat with your hands!

My son in law is French and he always insist that you go into a fast food restaurant to eat rather than drive through. He thinks speaking into a speaker to order his food is barbaric! When my daughter visited and they dined out, she was instructed to never question the waiter. For example, if her glass needed filling or her food was not prepared to her taste, she was not to complain. I am surprised by some of the differences but I must say that I truly love my son in law! He has beautiful manners and is most gracious at family gatherings.

I tend to use a knife and fork for the first few bites, because it is very soft. After that I take my hands.
