When you get the crap scared out of you or you feel that your life is out of control, you will see how it is natural to suddenly believe in god or God. as far as admitting there is no god, you are only admitting that the concept of god is not consistent with your experience or reason.

because some people feel that having something to believe in as big as god is good and that with out that meaning or doing a greater good to get nito heaven there is no reason to live. Personally I don't see the point christians are god fearing people if I wanted to fear for my life I'd move to harlem and start walking around wearing a KKK suit and the problem is we can't prove that there is or isn't a god so no body is right and no body is wrong we all just need to try and live in harmony instead of arguing with every about who's right and who's wrong.

Well, that is a personal belief called atheism. Most religions believe in some sort of God. It's not that we have a "need" to believe in that...it's that we DO. Period. As for why we can't admit that there is no God? Well, we can't because we don't believe that. Statistically, most of the people on this Earth believe in some sort of God.

if God does exist we have created him, the writters of the Bible were men, the commands in the Bible are human (moses smashed the ones given to him by god). and to answer your question because we are lonely, it is hard to face life and admit that the universe doesn't care about you. religion is both a social and individual construct that helps the indivdual face life and live it and at the same time promotes the norms of the community.
also our existence is subjective, everything from perceptions to the most complex ideas and thoughts, one cannot concieve the world without oneself in it so one must exist somehow after death so we fool ourselves out of non-existence. even if one were to believe that the death is the end, one cannot really grasp the idea, cannot concieve it, as one cannot conceive our entire galaxy, we are simply not capable.
i do not know if i am right, but i think that Nietzche said it best, if a bit subtly, God is dead long live Man

Love is god.
Your good thoughts are god.
Your service to others is god.
Your kind heart is god.
I have a friend, who has no belief in God - but has so far donated blood to more than 25 people. I will say that this man himself is God.

I never got the athiest stance. I am not a religious person, but believeing in god is not that difficult, and doesn't put any strain on my life. It's there but it isn't anything that effects who I am.

How can you look up at the stars in the sky at night,
look at the oceans and all their wonders,
look at the beauty of a sunset/sunrise,
look at a newborn baby,
look at all this earth has to offer,
and not believe in wonderful higher power created all this

Because I would rather live my life as if there was a God, and die to find out that there wasn't, then to live my life as if there was no God, only to find out that when I die, that there Really is.

Dear Sam 321,

if you know there is no God, then why do you make reference to Him. It really makes no sense for someone to talk about something or someone that never exists.
