That sort of thing that makes me want to throw my bible in the garbage. Oh wait, I already did that.

It is part of the Mosaic Law given to ancient Israel. It is not an actual case study, but it is a law given by God to the people of Israel. A person who commits a willful act by attacking another man was to be punished.
In a modern western culture, we may say that this is a situation where a person is just protecting their family. However, we have to read the verses carefully and try not to interpret them with preconceived ideas. Deuteronomy 25:11-12 is not dealing with self-defense. This is the reason we are never told why the two men were fighting nor how bad the fight was. These verses were designed to instruct the Israelites what to do if a person willfully and deliberately attacked another person. It helps to look at other verses in the Bible to compare this to. Take a look at Leviticus 24:19-20.
If a woman in ancient Israel did actually attack another man in this way under the circumstances outlined in these verses, it was done with the deliberate attempt to mutilate the other man so that he would be unfit for reproduction. I would suggest looking up the sources of my information. These two commentaries will make these verses a lot clearer.

In that day and age it was most acceptable. Though the world has evolved since then and women are treated with more respect now.
All I have to say is that if I was defending my man (if I had one) like that and someone tried to cut off my hand, there would be some more genital grabbing if need be to defend myself. hee hee

Did your wife try to save your sorry @ss in a bar fight by grabbing the other guys balls? You should definately cut off her hand and show no mercy because getting you @ss kicked shows way more honor than allowing your wife to come in and save your wimpy hide.

It's specifically the genitals... If I was getting my *** beat and my wife came to rescue me and grabbed the guys crotch, Id be pretty ticked... as well as if she was in a fight and I saved her by grabbing the other girls crotch. Doesnt say we (they) cant pick up a brick or something does it?

No one should stick their nose in other peoples business or they will be involved in the fight and the two fighting will be pissed off at the one that interfered. I think Cindy made a good point.

I think it shuldn't b taken literally. The point i think is to say a man's pride is one thing he must always face, and in interfering with his endevours to further in this idea, is taking away his pride along with his dignity (a.k.a. his genitals or manhood).

While the law is still into effect, the price for it has been paid.
So if some lady did that, please know that the price of her crime has been paid by Jesus Christ.
He did not come to change the law, but to fullfill it. He paid the price for us, and her.
