Look at the issue with Palestina. They had free democratic elections and they elected the most radical party (HAMAS).
Maybe democracy wont have success in an islamic country.
Not because they are bad, only because they have another culture.
Or maybe yes. Please let me have your opinions.

The people have spoken! Democracy means it's their choice! Radical party in a radical situation. Maybe western systems are inappropriate, to some countries in the middle east, just as middle eastern systems might be here. ... But what if that's what they want!

I think the Iraqi's would be insulted to be compared to the Palestinians. I think it is up the the free voting Iraqi people to decide. Not the terrorist and not the Coalition. They know what is best for their country. If they can find a balance of Islam and freedom so they can move forward in a world market more power to them. I don't think many are ready to go back to the dark ages. So there will have to be compromises. It's in Iraq's best interest to move forward as a united country, not to be thrown back into a tyranny headed by terrorist.

I think that Iraq will emerge with its own brand of democracy that
is peculiar to the needs, customs and habits of the Iraqi people.
After all, we are talking about an area that is considered to be
the "Cradle of Civilization". Some times , westerener's get
the idea of "modernity" confused with being "civilized". I do
believe that the quicker that we (U>S) depart, the better for
all parties involved.

.Yeah that worked out well for the Palestinians. Since they took that soldier Israel holds them all responsible.

I think Iraq will be different because their enemy was within the country. The are well educated and had a somewhat normal society

Doubt it.

Their culture has no concept of democracy. Plus the fact that we're force feeding them our beliefs and ways they're eventually going to rebel.

It's a lose/lose situation - we stay, we lose. We go, we lose.

Can you say... Vietnam anybody? I knew you could.

As long as they get the time they need.

The US 'peace movement' wants to deny them that time. I am not sure what they really care about (politics?) but it certainly is not the Iraqi people.

Yes, it will work simply because the Iraqi people lived for so long under a brutal dictator. They now want democracy. It is the stupid liberals who don't want to see it succeed simply because they are Communist traitors.

Can you say DUH?
