I don't know what church you're going to, but they don't do that in any church I've ever been in. In the Catholic Church they just shake hands, which is kind of gross because who knows if they have a cold.

If you go to the altar for prayer and this is done they are interceding for you in prayer and you know prayer by more than one never hurt anyone. It enforces through Christ that others are there praying also for you.

it is a church full of fellowship. friends getting together to worship God adn learn together. they are there to help each other.
