I am a 17 year old boy. I'm not one of those tough guys that's afraid to show emotion, or anything.

The last time that I cried out of sadness was over 6 years ago. I get the feeling that I want to cry when I see other people crying. That was the case 6 years ago, so I didn't really start it.

I cried about a year ago, but it wasn't because I was sad. I was really, intensely frustrated. I worked really hard for something, and then it just fell through. I don't think that there were any tears; my eyes just got really watery and I was shouting and stuff.

I hear people who say that they cry every night, every week... all of that.
I don't want to be overly emotional, but I'm kind of scared that I'm going to go crazy if something really bad happens.

I don't cry when people die. I've been at funerals and been surrounded by crying people. It's weird, I sometimes feel like an idiot because I come off as this insensitive jerk.

Is this normal? Does anyone else have this problem?

It sounds as if you have learned to suppress your emotions. That is fairly common for someone your age.

You know, Andre Agassi cried if front of the world last week. Good for him, proves he is secure in his manhood.

Don't worry about what is normal. Sadness and grieving are very personal and different for everybody.

You sound like a kind and sensitive man, so I am sure you arer not insulting others. It is OK not to cry, as long as you don't demand it of everybody. That is what makes a jerk, not lack of water.

If you are afraid you are suppressing your emotions, perhaps a visit or two to a therepist might help. You could either confirm you are a normal man who just doesn't cry much or get help for whatever is keeping you from crying. Either way, there is very little risk and a lot to gain. Almost everybody sees a therepist at some point.

PS Crying every night is depression, trust me, you don't want that. Crying every week might be common among High School students, but it is less so among those of us with normal hormones. I know many good men who cry once a year or less.

Well, I can cry for the least important things (when watching a movie or listening to a song) but I always feel like laughing in funerals. I know thing is strange but...I don't even feel sad or sorry for the people who died. I just think of how funny this whole thing is (yeah, I'm crazy) I don't think you have a problem or anything...at least you don't laugh in the middle of funerals and the people are not staring at you as if you were an alien.

some men have a diverse way of showing there thoughts... No you would no longer cry yet you would do something that replaces the tears. human beings have diverse way of coping with discomfort. You no longer crying is likely no longer weird and wonderful... Tears are merely unstated words from the guts... for sure you've pronounced each and every thing you want to assert.

I am female, and I can cry very easily. I don't do it at funerals though, and over death. I consider that I cry to release frustration, and funerals do not frustrate me. Weddings do, because the happy couple's life will never be as perfect as it is right then - and there is nothing that I can do about it.

Some people who cry a lot do it because their blood sugar is low, and crying (like exercising) makes one's heartbeat go up, which helps release blood sugar from storage.

Crying is not mandatory, and sometimes it is counter productive. Don't be hard on yourself. You are still having feelings, but you are not expressing them by crying - and that is just fine.

I never cry either, and I'm a girl, so I'm expected to cry. But when I should cry, I cut instead, so maybe you oughtn't to be listening to me.

Now you lie.

Your Mommy told me you used to cry all the time when you were a baby.

I'm sure you don't remeber me...
