Because it is the only true religion. It was begun by Christ and it is His Holy Bride. All other religions were begun by man and are false. They won't lead anywhere but to hell. And I'm referring to traditional Catholicism, not the humanistic nonsense that most "Catholics" spout today.

I chose to be Roman Catholic because when I took the time and looked at protestantism, fundamentalism, any of them, I found the Roman Catholic church is and has remained the closest to the true Word of God out of all the churches I researched (and there were lots). As I read the bible, everything matched the Roman Catholic church.

I wasn't raised Catholic, nor even Christian - I was raised by a 'fervent' agnostic and 'devout' atheist. I have peace as a Christian and a Catholic; the agnostic (mom) has converted to Catholicism and the other (dad)... well, he's still miserable and unhappy.

If you're interested in the faith, not necessarily to join even, you should attend an RCIA group at your local parish church. They start in September.

People don't chose it, it is what you are born into...

Those who do choose to be Catholic are people who change religions to suit their needs.

I was born Lutheran but changed my beliefs to Buddhist because I did a lot of research on what I believed in.

If you want to change religions or faiths, then research what interests you. Just because you are born something, doesn't mean you have to stick with it your whole life.

Catholicism is a choice that parents make for their children. It follows the strict rule of God and many people believe that it is the 'right' religion. I suppose that would be why some people choose it or stick with it.

I really liked BRI's (agnostic/atheist turned Catholic) answer above (2 above when if it to voting) and think she should get the points.

I am a Catholic convert who studied (and prayed) my way to Catholicism like Bri. The biggest influence for me was a black baptist preacher who spoke at my college university (all those long years ago) who was in the process of bringing his family and a great deal of his congregation into the Church. It made a profound impact.

Most of my friends are Catholic converts. Catholicism is a blessing and a life saver.

Most of them didn't choose it. It was forced upon them when they were born. Some are brainwashed to the point that they refuse to hear another person's ideas and what they believe, telling them they are going to hell because the brainwashed one thinks their religion is the one right one.

There are a choice few, who are somehow able to break out of the "mommy told me to" bracket and open their spirits to what their true calling is... whatever that may be. Well, that is how it worked for me... I got tired of the bigotry and the sentiment that I was not to question anything, regardless of how ludicrous it was, and being a woman, I was sub-human. I found the path that resonated in my heart... and it was NOT catholicism.

I cannot speak for others.

I chose to remain Catholic when I reached the age of making my own decisions because Catholicism answered all my questions and other religions and denominations didn't.

With love in Christ.

I think the majority of them were raised by their parents to be Catholic. The rest were just brainwashed, sorry.

Why do people choose to be Protestant, Muslim, Jewish. Let's face it, most of the time they are born into religious groups by their own family traditions.

Because God equipped his Catholic church with everything my loved ones and I need to obtain grace, to keep it, to personally come to know and love God, and to obtain eternal salvation and peace.
