it's false? I'm making a couple of rules about answering this question - you MUST have read the entire book, cover to cover, and you MUST have prayed to God about it, to ask Him whether or not it is a true book (for those of you who haven't read it, it promises the reader that he/she will know it is true so long as they pray to God to sincerely know). And if you still want to answer without having done these things, at least admit that you have not, so that we know to discredit your answer. Thank you and have a great 4th!

I've read the whole Book of Mormon cover to cover, I have prayed to know that it is true, and have felt my prayers answered many times over. I know the Book of Mormon is truth.

I have a copy, and I admit that I have not read it from cover to cover, but I have found some areas where the Book of Mormon does not agree with the Bible.
One concern I have with the book of Mormon is this: Mormons say this book was translated by a prophet who was helped by an angel. But on one of the first few pages of the book I own, it says that "some minor errors in the text have been perpetuated in past editions of the Book of Mormon. This edition contains corrections..."

How could the Book of Mormon contain errors if it was translated by a prophet? How could something inspired by God and translated by a prophet contain errors, even minor errors?

One of the errors (among many) I found is that the Book of Mormon says that Jesus was to be born in Jerusalem (Alma 7:10), but the Bible clearly says that he was born in the city of Bethlehem (Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:1) How could the Book of Mormon, if inspired by God, get this basic fact wrong?

The only conclusion I can see is that it is not God's word.

Yes, I have read it from cover to cover. Yes, I have prayed about it. And no, it is not a "true" book. How many times have we heard from the pulpit "I testify that this is the most correct book ever written"? Unlike a lot of ex-members of the church, I do not believe that it is an evil organisation. In fact, from my experience, MOST members of the church are decent, honest and wonderful people. But any church that draws a line in the sand and says that there is only the church of God and any else else is of Satan is clearly leaving itself wide open to criticism. Why does there need to be a single "correct" religion?

To bama_ild I'd just like to say that the Book of Mormon was translated by a prophet under the inspiration of God. But you need not suppose that an angel stood over Joseph Smith's shoulder and corrected every spelling or typing error. Actually, the Book of Mormon was translated out loud and someone else wrote down what he heard. God didn't send an angel down to proof-read it. Who cares about little mistakes like that, anyway? God didn't send an angel down to direct the translation of the Bible, either, and there are plenty of mistakes in it.

Have you ever been to Jerusalem? I have. Bethlehem is only about five miles from Jerusalem. It is a suburb. In Alma 7:10 the reference is that Jesus shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers. It was entirely appropriate for someone of Jewish descent talking about Bethlehem as part of the land of Jerusalem. It actually shows that the Book of Mormon is inspired, as most folks would have ignorantly put Bethlehem, which is not what a Jewish writer would have written.

I have read The B O M....I prayed to God for the TRUTH, not whether the B O M was true or not.....My testimony is from the new testament and not from the plagerized hands of a whacko name Joseph Smith...whom his own followers discredited and killed

I am LDS, and I have read the Book of Mormon cover to cover several times. I have prayed about it until my knees were sore, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is true. No man could tell me anything to change my mind, and I will never deny it's truthfullness beyond my dying breath.

I have read the entire Book of Mormon, prayed about, and I
know it be a true record of Jesus Christ. That is why I am now a member of the Nephite Church of Christ in Zion. It is a sabbath-keeping Church in the line of th Temple Lot Church.

I have read it several times. I have also prayed about it. The answer to my prayers was that it is most definitely NOT true and that it is dangerous because it contradicts the Bible.

omg, I can't even COUNT the times I have read it from cover to cover. It makes me sick to think about it now. I believed I had a testimony, but it turns out, I was just brainwashed; of COURSE I'm gonna believe my prayers were answered= in the way I was raised to believe they were. I'm SO glad that's over now and that I have woken up!
