When I watched them as a child, I loved the show, but I did not think of them like that, I thought they were heroes though. Now, it's different. Just yesterday when I was shopping for my son, I saw some teenage mutant ninja turtle items and books and they surely looked hardcore.

The black and white comics from the eighties are pretty cool- before they went kiddie. They were fairly violent, by comparison, and had mild gore. They had cool storylines about aliens and robots and such, and the art was gritty. I think that Peter Laird, one of the original creators, is doing a new comic book series, so you might want to go to the comics store and check it out!

Their not hardcore beacuse they are meant for a younger audience, but TMNT is one of the best non anime cartoons out there dude!
