Let's just do what we always do. Support them to the hilt, get drunk, sing a lot. Then watch them run around frantically to no effect. Then get more drunk and sing a lot. Sober up the next day and go and support somebody else because we're on holiday and want to get drunk and sing a lot.

Austria and Switzerland, neither good nor entertaining teams, automatically qualify as they're the hosts. Double hosts, and poor footballing nations to host a cup is something I'm against for that reason. South Korea/Japan was laughable too. Or actually no, I'm still angry at the penalty Korea got against the US and the 5 (!) disallowed goals by Portugal, Spain and Italy it took for these hosts to continue their party until the 2006 hosts (coincedence) did manage to overcome them. The same refereeing could be seen again in Germany, but this time thankfully the Germans had quality play too - and were beaten fairly by Italy. Yay!
Scotland unfortunately don't stand a chance against an Italian side like this, nor against France, as only the numbers 1 and 2 qualify. If the Scots play poorly they lose by 5 goals to nil, if the French play poorly they beat Spain 3-1.. Mind you, Scotland will have some interesting games now, like cup games before the actual cup. Previously they couldn't qualify despite lacklustre opposition (Belgium, Lithuania..), or because of a heavy defeat (Netherlands) which didn't make them look good. This time around, they get a chance to look brilliant - any result in a group like that will be more than what's expected. I think they should expect a fourth place and positive goal difference, anything better than that is excellence. Really, I love the Scots, but I hope they can be realistic as well as ambitious.
Pity there aren't 32 teams in the UEFA European Cup, there's almost that many decent teams. In 2008 though, I think it'll be Portugal, Belgium, Italy, France, Turkey, Norway, Germany, Czech Republic, England, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, Romania, Switzerland and Austria. I pity Scotland, Greece, Denmark, Ireland, Ukraine and Poland especially - or the aforementioned teams that don't qualify if these do. And I wonder whether Austria, where corruption influences football as much as it does in Italy, will go a long way with the referees. The championship should be organised much like Eurovision: have the winners host the event next, and have the biggest nations qualify automatically.

I would have to agree with you there but problem with Scotland is that they use so many foreigners! It doesn't give the national team much of a chance! It's a great pity because there are some very talented young players but they need to be given the opportunity to develop and play at a higher level. It doesn't look promising right now but hey! Had someone told you 10 years ago that Ghana would go so far in the world cup, would you have believed it? It can happen to Scotland too! In fact i refuse to believe that Scotland won't make it to the world cup final one day. It's my dream and i ain't letting anyone take it away from me!

Put a sly tenner on Scotland qualifying and you might see a healthy return. We've done well against Italy very recently, a lot of their players may be facing bans after the match-fixing scandal, many of the French team are retiring after this WC, so with a following wind and the guidance of Walter, we could pull a surprise. It will obviously incredibly tough, but we can play fantastically as a team. Remember before that useless Vogts d*ckhead took over, we were unbeaten at home for 25 years, so I say bring it the f*ck on!

You're right there Jay
We have NO chance of qualifying for Euro 2008.
We've already missed the last 4 BIG Football tournaments
So it looks as if it's gonna be a 5 in a row NOT to be proud of.
What has gone wrong with our game ??
We used to qualify ALL the time, now our players are SO BAD I think it'll be a good while longer before we appear at another BIG tournament.
Something has seriously gone wrong at Grass Roots level, we cannot keep blaming the Foreign players that are coming into our game, because it has'nt done them doon South any harm, Has it.
No the SFA have a lot to answer for.
Angry but AWRABEST

Not many rays of hope and I expect that it is going to be another major competition that Scotland will not be entering into the group stages for. Best we can hope for is that Walter will use the next couple of years to introduce a squad of young players to be (hopefully) a force by the next World Cup.

Yeah in terms of the re-building 2008 will probably be too soon for us but I expect them to give a good account of themselves. Realistically Scotland must look towards 2010 when the younger players will have matured and provided we dont self destruct per normal then maybe but just maybe we might make it.

Sorry to say this my friend but we have to be realistic here and say that we will probably finish 4th behind Italy,France and the Ukraine in that order. As long as Rangers win the league thats all i care about. And get your money on Italy to win the World Cup, they were mighty impressive tonight.

Little chance but Scotland, just like the rest of the British, always play better when they are written off!
