It really depends guess, I was a navy dependent and I know you can claim family as a dependent but not to sure on boyfriends and such. If you have to take care of the person because they are ill it may be possible. But the navy is weird so all I can say is ask.

Q: Is there anyway to claim my boyfriend as my dependent? We live together. He doesn't work and I pay ALL the bills.

A: Your boyfriend could be your dependent if he lived with you for the entire year, was either a US citizen, US resident, Canadian resident or Mexican resident, was not filing a joint return with his spouse, had gross income less than $3200 for 2005, you provided more than half of his total support and he has a taxpayer identification number.
See IRS Pub 501 for detail explanations of the above rules.

Assuming you are not of the same sex, some states allow for domestic partnerships, then you would have to show you are the sole provider for this person.

You could marry the person.

And in extreme cases some states allow for adult adoptions, but you would also have to show that you are the only provider for this person.

If you are the same-sex you are out of luck in the military.

Marry him. Unless you are a gay male, and then you had better be quiet about it or you will be unemployed and in debt yourself.
