The best thing to do is the combination of boiling them until they are heated through. Then take them to the grill to get the char. By doing this they will most likely puff up some and not get all shriveled and wilted like some grill dogs. This will produce dogs that you will be very happy with.

I was watching the cooking channel the other day and I saw Rachel Ray cook hers very differently. She boiled them for a few minutes and then placed them in a hot skillet that had onions sauteing in it. She let them get browned all around and then put them in a bun. On the side she mixed together catsup, mustard, relish and diced onions. She used that as a condiment on the dogs. Looked Delicious!!
(I always just boil mine - BORING)
ENJOY!!

I cook mine in a pan and just let them sit for a bit on a side and rotate them until they brown all the way around...most hotdogs are already cooked...so all you're really doing is heating them up and browning the outside the way you like them
(anyone want to buy me a new grill!?!?)

I must admit, it's been a long time since I've done it this way. My favorite way to cook a hot dog is to skewer it on a fork and cook it over the flames of a gas stove. (electric burner works too just not as well) they taste almost like campfire hot dogs with the exception of not being sooty and ashy.

Hot dogs are already cooked when you buy them. You just have to heat them up. Any method will work, from the microwave to boiling to grilling.
When you buy hot dogs, make sure that they do not have by products or fillers. And DEFINITELY make sure that they are not mechanically separated (you don't want to know why).

well when i go camping what i do is take like 4-5 wieners and slice them up into small circular pieces then i open a can of pork and beans and mix the two together and cook it for 4-6 minutes on a low to medium heat source, put it over a slice of bread with butter and it is the best.
maybe that not what your looking for but that's just how i cook wieners, for hot dogs i use smokies with cheese in the centre, not wieners because there not filling unless you eat like 4-5 of them, and i like to cook over a open fire.

I either boil em, or put in a frying pan and let them brown up nicely. Mmmmmmm.... delish... But grilling is always the best! You know in the winter I use my George Forman "Lean, Mean, Fat Grilling Machine." That always gives me the yummy grilled taste indoors.

you can get a pan and fry a hot dog over a burner. just add some cooking oil in the pan with the hot dog. keep cooking the hot dog until you see that it's getting burnt. it should start having some black marks. that's when it is cooked. just don't worry about the black marks. enjoy!
