I was just curious as to what is the general thing or what people think about this. When I go to college next year I hope to find a girl I can date but becuase I have never dated before I was wondering if it was up to me to find a girlfriend or will any ever come to me? I am fairly atractive, slim and have a great personality I can just be shy to new people (not very though).

I really believe it's the guy's job to ask the girl out. Girls have a great many ways of letting a guy know she's interested ... but the asking should be done by the guy.

I think girls who ask the guys out are really setting themselves up to be used. I know a lot of people think it's okay, and there's really nothing wrong with it, but ...

I think there is a subtle "surrendering", in a sexual sense, when the girl chases the guy. She may not mean it that way, but I think most guys would feel that the first hurdle has already been passed if she asks him out.

Since it's usually the guy who is *more* interested in having uncommitted sex early in the relationship ... I think it's better that they do the chasing ... and the girls/women can keep a "hurdle" in their possession.

I may be wrong ... but I think it should stay with the guys doing the chasing and catching.

Join a fraternity. The women will come calling. The smart thing would be to focus on studies. Finding a girlfriend should be your last worry since college is a great time for experimenting and finding out what you like and don't like in relationships. The person you think you've met and will be with the rest of your life may come about freshman year, but it is doubtful.

It used to be that the guy was supposed to be the one to initiate a relationship but now it can be either way. I asked my boyfriend out and we have been together for over 3 years.

It doesnt really matter who asks who nowadays. Guys are flattered when a gal asks them to go out for coffee, dinner, movie or whatever. Back in the days when our parents were kids, the guy asked the gal out for a date. I think the guys get a kick out of when we ask them out!

it use to be the guys that did the asking but now if a girl wants to go out w/ you she'll probably ask. But it's better that you ask; it shows you can take charge of a relationship.

Traditionally, the guy asks the girl - they often like to be chased, makes them feel desirable. However, this is 2006, there is nothing to stop her asking him.

Well it depends. I asked my bf out so a girl could come to you if she really wanted you. Or if you really wanted her then you should go up to her and ask her out.

neither has a "responsibility" to ask. if you don't ask you'll never know. the same for her. she may be thinking the same thing as you. you never know. if nothing is said, time will just pass.
