AT 12 YEARS OLD HE IS REALLY OLD IN DOG YEARS. IT COULD BE ARTHRITIS, OR EVEN SOMETIMES THE SOCKET THAT THE LEG BONE GET ONLY AND DETERIORATES. DO TAKE HIM TO THE VET SO THEY CAN DIAGNOSE AND TREAT EFFECTIVELY.

There are several medications as well as physical therapy options for pets.
The first step in knowing what will be the right thing for your dog will be a trip to the vet for a proper diagnosis of the reason behind the leg "giving out". You dog may simply need a chiropractic adjustment, and some vets (not many, but there are some) can do this in house.
For your dog's sake, please make an appointment soon.

Sounds like a vet visit is in order... but yes, arthritis medicine is available over the counter. I have had good luck with "Arthramine" and it is fairly reasonably priced too!

well if the dog is going on 12 years old then as they get older their legs might start to give outbecause the dog is getting old. But if you haven't took him to the vet you might want to do so.(By the way, In dog years your dog is 84.One year in our years is 7 years in dog years.)

He may need some arthritis medication.
You will need to have your vet look at him to see what they think and what type of med and what dose will help.
Take your pet in and have them get him something for pain.

You can check with the veterinarians. He might have joint problems and/or arthritis. The veterinarian will be able to tell you the actions to take, to relieve any pain and strengthen the joints if needed.

Hip problems are common with this breed. You can give him a low dose aspirin (baby aspirin) once a day.
