i would have to say, i knew when Momma was home from work for the day, was when i was walking home from school.

if Momma did not have to work, she would make homemade bread, and we could smell the fresh smell of the bread down the road, since there were only four houses on the block. we knew it was Momma.

as soon as, we walked in the door she would drop some bread dough in the frying pan. and when she took it out of the pan she would smoother it with butter, dripping all over the place when you bite into the fried bread dough, uuuuummmm so good, what a happy thought.

thanks for the memory. i haven't had any of her bread since 1975 when she passed away. but the memory is so fresh as if she just cooked it today.

My favorite memory of home is our Saturday night singspirations. Friends and family members would gather at our home with their guitars, omnichords, keyboards etc. and would play while we all sang old songs, old hymns, camp songs...whatever anyone selected...we would sing for hours.
All of the ladies would bring refreshments; summertime lemonade and iced tea, winter time hot cocoa and coffee. It was always a great time.

The smells. I grew up in Northern California, and I miss the smells there. In the bay area, it's eucalyptus, and down further south it's more a an earthy smell, like garlic in Gilroy. I live in Colorado now, and there are no smells here. I was in Northern California last year with friends, and that was one of the things I pointed out to them. They agreed. California has smells that are inviting, while Colorado lacks smells.

The day my bedroom was done after my parents re-did it, when I was nine. Keep in mind that it was 1969, I picked out this black, yellow and white wallpaper sort of psychedelic print. My dad swore he had to drink a case of beer just to hang it! And my granny made black and white bedspreds for my twin beds, with matching bolsters so the beds looked like couches. It was just the coolest room ever. Or maybe I should say the grooviest!LOl

Taking car rides to various places in the state of Ohio. We would drive and then pull off at the rest areas along the highway and have a picnic. I remember Mom making us eat bologna & cheese sandwiches. I made sure that she brought mustard because I hate bologna.

We also celebrated birthdays and other big events in our lives. Going out to dinner for our birthdays was always nice. :)

I was about 6 years old, my sister was 5. It was Easter Sunday and my grandmother had come to see us. She had us sit on the sofa in our Easter dresses while she took a picture of us with a camera that I'm sure, at the time, was high tech. The sun was hitting our faces and lighting them up like angels. I felt loved and happy. I saw that picture a few years ago, the sunshine was still hitting our faces, and we still look like angels.

Having hot chocolate pudding while the family watched tv. I have carried it on to my kids and now they do it with their kids. My son-in-law asked about it and said he had never had hot pudding. Well, there is a method to eating it correctly. You must skim the top of the pudding to get a cool enough bite because if you dig in for a bite you will get a scorched tongue or roof of your mouth!
