Most people do the low carb. Adkins or South Beach. South Beach is the Healthiest. Adkins has a website and I think South Beach did too. Weight watchers is about the best program around really and they have a support system there for you as well. But remember a diet is only an eating regimen so find a diet that includes for food that you like. That is why weight watchers is so successful and they have a maintenance program as well. Good Luck been there done that.

Not at all and it could make you very sick. Incidentally, all carb is what cults do when they wish to work mind control tactics on you. It makes you rather fuzzy in the brain.
Realistically you have to pick a diet that will lead to permanent changes in the way you eat. Which means it has to be something you will like.
There are several ways to eat healthy, and quite frankly current nutritional beliefs are rapidly changing so even the experts don't always agree.
Some things though that are common sense items in any healthy diet.
1. Eating vegetables and lots of them is good. I don't think there is such a thing as too many vegetables.
2. You need 8 glasses a day of water.
3. Soda is really bad for you (even the diet stuff)
4. Cut out sugar and simple carbohydrates like non whole grain breads. This means white pasta, white rice, russet potatoes.
Some diets recommend seriously restricting all carbs in the beginning, then making sure the carbs you do eat are in moderation AND heathy ones that don't spike your blood sugar. You might benefit from reading up on the glycemic index which measures how a carb affects blood sugar.
Anyway, without going into the carb debate, if you want to lose fast, the fewer carbs the better and NO sugar.
5. You need protein. Lean proteins will be best.
6. You need some fat, but not a lot, and not "bad" fats. Again, the debate over what constitutes a "bad" fat is raging. The one clear loser - trans-fats. If you see "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil" on a label, that's a transfat. You will find it in most pre-prepared foods.
7. Control your portions. Use your fist as a rough guide to how much is enough. Push away the plate before you are full.
That alone should help a lot.
I'm a huge fan of the Atkins diet and have been on it for 4 years, but ultimately you have to pick one that works for your appetite.
Best of luck.

An all anything diet is bad. And simple carbs raise the blood sugar too fast and end up causing the blood sugar to decline just as fast. Making you hungerier than before.
Sorry, there is no magic to weight loss. And rapid weight loss is very bad for your health. Aim for no more than 1 pound per week.
Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fiber and lean protein. NO junk food (sugar, candy, chips, pizza, fries, burger crap). No simple carbs (think white bread, white rice, white sugar, white flour, white potatoes). Sugar is empty calories and provides no nutritional value. Eat 5 small meals a day. Drink lots of water. And walk at least 30 minutes everyday or do some other form of exercise that you enjoy. Always take the stairs, never take the closest parking spot.
This is not a diet, it is a lifestyle. But, I guarantee that you will lose weight.

Possibly, however you might lose muscle mass if you don't intake any protein.
A diet that is mostly protein with very little carb will be more healthy to lose the weight. I like the Protein Power diet, but the South Beach diet sounds pretty close.
Just remember you do have to have protein, fat and carb or you will lose out on nutrition - and that is not a good thing.

Is this the same as Atkins diet..? Maybe not. I was on Atkins diet for several months, then decided to quit and eat 'normal' food again. Jeez, what followed was awful stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation etc until after 3 weeks I had again gottten used to this 'normal' diet. I think it's best to eat balanced diet, enough carbs, protein etc, not just one of them.

it is never healthy to eliminate any one food group from your diet. Carbs are important to your health however you need proteins and a certain amount of healthy fat to ensure good health. Get a book on nutrition and learn what a healthy meal plan consists of. The food pyramid still works.
