I've already read a previous post but I need to do something about it NOW! THEY ARE NOT HOME. I think they went away for the day, but the puppy is out barking and won't shut up. I would like a humane method of treatment. Should I buy a bone and throw it over as a treat? I'm going insane!!! It's ruining my 4th of July holiday!!!! (no I'm not going to a BBQ).

P.S I am on good terms with the neighbor, even thought we don't speak often.

Definetly a bone. Try a Rawhide. Those are the strange white "bones" that have been tied in a knot at each end. If you put some penut butter on it, he is sure to love it. And he will be preoccupied with licking the penut butter off his chops. We do this for our great dane(allow me to illustrate for you: WOOOOOOOF!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Good luck.

I wish I knew the answer to that one, because our weekend was ruined by a neighbor's dog yapping and yapping and yapping. It sounded as though they had gone away, or left it tied up.
I've mentioned it to them before, but they say they've never heard the dog barking. Of course not! It doesn't bark when they're home, but it barks non-stop when they're not. I'm thinking seriously of calling the SPCA next time this happens. There is a city bylaw against barking dogs, and I think it's time to use it. As I understand it, neither the city nor the SPCA will reveal the source of their information, but they will either seize the dog or fine the owner.
Good luck -- it's a difficult situation!

If the puppy has food and water and just seems bored, a big bone or rawhide may keep it occupied for sometime. 1/2 to 1 benadryl will not hurt the puppy and put it to sleep - I know this because I had a dog that was a noise problem and nothing helped - then the doctor told me to give her 1/2 a benadryl for a skin allergy and she never made noise again. But that is something you might suggest to your neighbors - i would not advise you to dope someone else's dog!

Peace,
CC

you really don't have alot of options other then waiting for the owner to get home or calling the police. though you will be lucky if they even show up. they may only take a report over the phone. Who ever said the dog is lonely has it right. scared and lonely and wants attention. like a toddler negative attention is better then no attention at all.
Your neighbors need to crate train there dog for while there away from home for a few hours.

There are special collars with batteries, that puts out a very low level shock when it is triggerd by barking. Most dogs learn not to bark. Do not leave it on over night. Some have a mximum time, less. Lots of choices, some better than others. Check with your pet store or your vet for info.

Good luck. It is a puppy and sounds as though it is lonely from being left alone. I am afraid it will continue until it gets some attention. You could try the bone idea, but I think that won't keep it occupied for long.

You can toss him a chocolate bar , I have been told this will shut him up. If no chocolate bar you might want to give him a bowl of anti freeze as I hear this too will shut him up. If you want to stay friends with your neighbors I would not admit to being the one who killed the puppy with one of these two methods. If you want to stay friends with them just take the puppy out of town and let him go.

Buy a small squeaky toy and perhaps a bag of puppy treats and chuck 'em over the fence.

buy some cyanide and throw it over...

then again, if you're on good terms with your neighbors and you aren't looking to kill the mutt, buy some fast action sleeping pills and throw them over. that'll shut him up for 8 hours.

OR if you NEVER want to hear it again, but at the same time you don't want to kill it... accidently open the gate... let your neighbors think they left it open.. and OUT it goes... born to be free, free at last, run lassie run
