I see you had to suffer through one of GitEmGang wonderful comments.
I don't know a thing about terriers. There are just some questions that are asked that I like to know the answer to also.
I wanted to send an apology from all of us that really try to help. Most of the time people respond with the sincere hope of helping,
I have seen several of GEG responses, he seems to really enjoy being an *** and he actually does a fine job of it.
And you are correct, the sneaky turd doesn't list any way to reply to him directly.

The AKC does not recognize the breed as a Pitt Bull
They do as an Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
They are very simmilar and I do not think there is much difference.
There are many breeds now that are close to them like the
American Staffordshire and the American Bull Dog and several others.
All would be classified as an assertive large dominant breed of dog. Most make wonderful pets with proper training.

The AKC recognize the American pit bull terriors in 1898. Staffshire was crossed with a mastiff to get the pit bull.

American Staffordshire Bull Terriors are very loving and protective dogs. I had my Lucy for 11 years and she went wherever I went (except to work) They were originally bread to be companions and protectors of children.
I'm sure there is more of a difference in the 2 breeds other their names.
I've never owned a Pit Bull so I cant tell you about that.
I also think there is an English Staffordshire Bull Terrior.
I know this doesnt anwer your question, I just wanted to get my .2cents in.

No, they are not the same dog. I'll go find you some info...
American Pit Bull Terrier: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanpitbull.htm
Staffordshire Bull Terrier: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/staffordshirebullterrier.htm
Staffies are smaller and stockier than Pits. There is a wealth of info at those links. Check them out.

It's all in the specific breeding and where they come from... (where developed) Doesn't matter unless you're showing the dog and have to have specifics for paperwork...
