PLEASE READ:
Do you want to go through the list of all the great, famous, and intelligent people who had Judeo-Chrsitian beliefs and backgrounds? Do you think that what you say is reverent to our Founding Fathers who were Christians?
It is people like you who are slapping in the face the men who literally gave everything they had- posessions, freedom, family, and ultimately, their lives- to create a nation where we can be free to express our opinions and beliefs.
There must be something no working in your brain for you to label one-sixth of the world's population as "mental defects." Do you believe that humans are that susceptible to mental defects? Do you think that one in every six to ten people are born with brain problems? You must have a brain problem to think that.
Christians are not so easily brainwashed nor are they naive and retarded. One on one, I could probably take you down in any debate; unless you are one of the obstinate atheists who deny facts and make up facts to support their THEORETICAL beliefs.\
Do you think I, a Christian, am retarded for believing in a God? Well I have few of many questions that will make your brain turn:
How did the universe give birth to itself?
How can something create itself in an enviroment without the forces of space, matter, time, and energy?
What is outside of our finite universe?
All of these are things that the Big Bang theory admits it cannot explain. So don't think something has to be explained by science to believe in it. The finite mind will never be able to comprehend the inifite.

Well, I can't answer that question impartially because I am Christian, however someone like you who is a not religious and therefore probably a good liberal shouldn't be going around insulting people and being biased. If it is a mental defect you should respect their differences, just as you respect gays for their difference.
Now you state that Christians are naive, brainwashed, and retarded. Being retarded is a permanent thing (an IQ below 75), so you are stating that you think Christianity is an incurable mental disease. The fact that people have stopped being Christians and have become atheists, unfortunately proves that this is not the case. Also, great atheist thinkers and people who were brilliant and not naive, like Augustine have converted to Christianity. So Christianity is not permenat, it is not a mental disorder or defect. As for brainwashed, the fact that I am writing a reasonable response to you means that I am thinking about my religion and believes and logically weighing them. Therefore, I am not blindly following an illogical system, and am not brainwashed. However, I do not think that you are truly interested in this answer and so unfortunately my reply won't do much good. You are just trying to spread the "bad news" of atheism and insult people who disagree with you.

My that is a lot of hate. Isn't it ok for someone to feel differently than you? Look around. Some of the most brilliant minds belong to Christians. Are you supporting an orphange in India? Giving out of your own pocket to dig them a well, to give them clothes and personally going there to help build classrooms or other needed buildings? The churches gave more money to the Katrina fund and sent in more workers than anyone. The list of helps would take years for me to write down for you. Some Christians I know have their own businesses, are teachers, fire fighters, care givers, CEOs, in upper management, policemen, etc. Obviously their minds are not intellectually impaired. Some of the best students in colleges and Universities, that I know personally, are Christians. They are hard workers, give of their time and still have time to make the dean's list. Retarded? One of the sweetest kindest ladies I know is a little slow. She is a teasured friend. Because she knows the love of Jesus, she loves others. She is one of the greatest people I will ever know.
Be careful not to hate anyone. It will only make you bitter. If you don't want to know Jesus, at least let others make their own choices. I'm sorry for whatever or whomever caused you to feel so strongly. We aren't perfect and some may appear uncaring and for that I am very sorry. Don't judge us all by a few or by what might seem brainwashed or naive. The Bible calls us not to be naive. You don't have to get it but let it be ok for others.

Of course you can't regard christianity as a mental defect. If it was a mental defect, there's the possibility of a cure and that's not possible with christianity. They're done for and if you put them in an asylum it's just not fair on the other inmates.
PS I loved the "there is a god" ref "the bible". By that logic there's a Winnie the Pooh and a Gandolf.

Perhaps "mental defect" is too strong a term. Ill educated and easily misled perhaps but I don't think all of them have a mental defect.
Some certainly do (whynotaskdon) springs to mind, but I think you're being overly-critical.
Most of them could simply stand with a few semesters of decent education and some grammar lessons.

Well, if believing that utter nothingness somehow compacted itself together so tightly that it exploded (with a "Big Bang"), producing sub-atomic particles (out of nothing, mind you), which, somehow, over eons of time, defied all laws of thermodynamics and organized themselves into more and more complex substances which somehow, over eons and eons of time, defying all scientific laws, including observable proofs that mutations result ultimately in negative, or fatal, changes, organized themselves into life forms is also regarded as a mental defect, then, by all means, it would only be fair to include all rational thinking people, Christians included, as mental defects.

I think this tendency of some people to persecute anything that is different from their own belief ought to be regarded as a mental defect, actually.
Perhaps there is something in their brain that makes them so insolent, nasty, and rude.

It's not a defect, so much as it's a deficiency. Some people are incapable of controlling their own lives, for them it's much much easier to believe that some "higher power" is controlling everything. It takes the pressure off, I guess.
