i know that you believe deeply in your convictions, but i think that any rational person will admit that they MIGHT be wrong. i believe very strongly in evolution, but i'm willing to admit that it MIGHT not be the truth. that's all i'm asking from you. is it possible that maybe you're wrong about what you believe???
note: please don't answer with things like "well,, how can you prove evolution??" -- this isn't about me. if you wanna ask that question, then start up your own question. please only respond with answers to this question.... "is it possible?" --- simple "yes" and "no" answers would be preferable.

a lot of you didn't answer my question AT ALL. you just rambled off about something i didn't even ask. some of you even asked me about how i can prove evolution. tisk tisk. don't you read?
thanks to all of you though who did answer my question. i appreciate it. all but one of you said "no, it's not possible". while i'm glad you answered honestly. you need to realize how close minded you are. NEVER EVER NEVER be so confident in your beliefs as to say that it's not possible that you are wrong. that's just conceited and foolish.

rather,,, all but TWO of you answered "no".
as for the two of you who said "yes",,,, i think it's great that you're so comfortable with your beliefs to allow them to questioned. i'd be really curious to listen as to why you think it's more likely than not that there must be a god. --- i will say this though,,,, you shouldn't let "the way it makes you feel" enter into the equation. sometimes the truth is ugly. you shouldn't disregard it just because you don't like how it makes you feel.

Well of course it is possible. It is possible, for that matter, that I am a modeled construct on a computer and not really here. Anything is possible. It is possible that none of the people I know and love really exist in any meaningful way, other than as computer generated deceptions. It is extremely unlikely - but possible.
That said, I do think, empirically, God is quite likely. Leaving aside the unlikely possibility of blue pill delirium, the teleological argument for God is a very impressive one in my estimation. And the personal experience I've had of God seals the deal, as far as I am concerned. Indeed, as far as I am concerned, I have more personal evidence of God than I do of you (no offence intended. :-)

I'm a Christ-following Christian.
I question & ponder my faith all the time. I think that's why I love it so much. I am free to leave at any time. There is no way I want to leave my Christian walk and I don't want to go back to the way the world lives.
The more I question, the more I delve into it, the stronger my faith becomes. Because I am a scientist, the more I learn the more I can't believe that evolution is possible. I truely do believe that it takes more faith to believe in evolution than to believe in God.
Here's the conclusion I've come up with if it turns out that God doesn't exist.
My life is sooooooooooo much better since I've become a Christian. I have experienced true joy & peace and all those words you hear Christians say. God's grace truely is amazing. My life is so full, it has so much purpose all the way around. My life was empty....even though I have a lot of accomplishments.
"Would you rather live your life as if there IS God and find out at the end that there isn't....or live as if there ISN"T God and find out at the end that there is." Because if there IS God....you're going to Hell. If there isn't a God....then my life has been awesome. What's happened, though, is that I know the Holy Spirit is working inside me. There are times when I don't remember what I said to comfort someone, I couldn't repeat it, and can only conclude that the Holy Spirit was speaking through me.
I also have questioned whether I've been "brain washed". And my answer to that is: I sure hope so! I want to transform my thinking into thinking more like Jesus. I want to "wash" my brain of all the evil & envy it's capable of.
So Yes it's possible there isn't God, but I don't think evolution is possible.

You're asking people to question their conditioning - something that is VERY difficult for most of us. Our conditioning is what we think we are: what we've been taught and the various things we grasp on to form an identity that gets bigger and bigger with the more things we pile on. More and more layers of concepts, abstractions, perceptions -- never seeing something as it is but instead what our perceptions and concepts tell us about it.
Questioning the conditioning -- 'slay the nays' (as Neitsche said) -- is the only way for any of us to be fully human. And this goes for not only the religious fundamentalist but everyone: we all have a definition of ourselves that at some level will strongly resist significant questioning and inquiry.
The irony with religious fundamentalism is that the worshipped god is an ego projection; the 'real God' (ultimate reality, the Void, whatever) can only be realized by questioning the reality of this ego projection. Only by looking at and going beyond our concepts, beliefs, conditioning (which means going beyond the definition of ourselves) can we actually have a direct experience of Reality...

Evolution offers a barely plausible explanation for everything but creativity. How can it explain why Man is so vastly different from other creatures? If a chimp even created the crudest stick figure drawing it might serve as evidence that creativity could be an evolved trait. Man possesses a spark that it is not evident in any other creature. If this spark is not a gift to Man from a Higher Being, then where did it come from?

I do not think that you will find someone Christian to admit that. The reason I say this is because for them to admit it, then they we in fact be saying that their whole lives are a lie. You will find that while the church gives room to question God, it does not give room to question is there a God. They will say that they do, but the fact is they don't. To them if someone questions God, they have little faith. But if you question the existence of God, you are a sinner and going to Hell. But yet if you asked them questions that can not be answered by the bible, they would have no real answer for you, but only to say you just have to believe. When in fact many of them do not believe themselves, but merely follow what they were told since they were little. That is the trick to get them young. That is why most churches have more youth programs then anything else, it is easier to convince the young then to change the old.

No...it is not possible in any way, shape or form that we are here by any other means than creation. Creation is an absolute evidenciary specticle that can be witnessed down to the millisecond. Down to the smallest particle, molecule or "simple" cell there is evidence of design...okay..lets take the simple cell for example....the cell wall, protoplasm (living substance) and then the internal protoplasmic system called the "endoplasmic reticulum"...in case ya didn't know...but I'm sure as an atheist you've studied all this along with reading the Bible 10 times cover to cover...so anyhoo...So lets examine this so called simple cell...The surface is protected by a membrane that is less than a third of a millionth of an inch thick and yet control both entry and exit of a thousand chemicals, enzymes and protiens that are essential for life to exist. Whenever anyone of these 60 trillion cells in our body needs a hormone, an enzyme, a vitamin or chemical (or to excrete a harmful waste product) this cell communicates and our body sends this through our vital fluids and viens...over seventy-five thousand miles of them all intersected in various highway like paths of veins, arteries and capillaries. Each and every single cell in our body does this very thing until it ages and is sluffed off being replaced by the splitting of a new cell..but never too many...unless you have cancer and never too few unless you have cancer. Yet with all the crap going on in the world with pollutants, chemicals, poor nutritian, addictive behaviors and drug use...we have remarkable low rates of cancer..especially in children...yet everyone always waves their hands and rants the cruelty of God letting such young innocent people have cancer. Do you know how remarkably cell will work to fight infections, cancer and bleeding to death...all from a simple cell..some of which that heal faster even still than others..like the eye and tongue. Energy generation, defense against biological invaders, intricate communication linkage with the neural pathways that can be reformed as needed, sofphisticated communications from cells that are no where near each other (ovum embedding and the optical connection of a fetus in utero). The list is endless..but just for fun...if this is all from a simple cell then tell me...how evolution also designated the developement of such complex systems such as the eye, sonar, radar, photosynthisis and symbiotic reproductive systems such as with water lillies and the water beetle. Explain to me the Kangaroos reproductive system, the Bombadier beetles defense mechinism, the cuckoo bird, beavers, platypus'(and I'm not talking about the physical features..I'm talking about the fact that they are the only land dwelling animal that produces a defensive neuro toxin in a valve in a spine that sticks out of their back leg that is as strong as a jelly fish..don't ever try to pick one up), honey bees, Mopnarch Butterflies,Pepsis wasps, Penguins, Rattlesnakes, Gechos or the Hummingbird. There..that outta keep you busy for a while. Oh and just fer fun...Canadian geese, Electictric fish, Woodpeckers and the Gray Sea Slug. When you're done and can produce a evolutionary study that will tell me how the irreducible complexity of these few creatures out of a billion or so came into form then I will immediatly abandon my faith and embrace scienctific theory. Feel free to email me your results. Love in Christ, ~J~ <><

If I listen to God,.. then it has to be possiable. Unless your saying that everyone that listens to God is actually listening to their subconcious reasoning. Then our subconciouses must be hard wired to have the same general responces,.. and everyone else that listens to their concious reasoning is merely overthinking things to get the conclusion they want. While everyone that listens to their subconcious is reacting to variables they subconciously know counts.
But what about Jesus? If the ends justifies the means. We should live just like Jesus in order to achieve the perfection Jesus did,.. instead of relying on over-intellectualizing psychologists to peice things together for us.
So you see it is much sainer to believe in God. Especially since space and time are a side effect of matter. When by all logic they should be constants. They are equal and opposite side effects to the creation of matter,.. thus allowing space and time to have the conditions space and time has. Even further showing that God exsists outside of space, time, and matter. And the soul is an energy independent of matter but charges matter. Thus allowing our body to react to our souls perception of events. Thus giving us self awareness beyond bodily functions. Thus giveing us individuality. Thus giving us a first person perspective. Thus giving us the need to look deeper into how we effect each other. Thus giving God the best perspective to see whats best for us in this area. God the father only wants what is best for his kids.
all you are is what you do in life. Don't do evil self centered things. Don't become the dogs feeding off the dogs.

There isn't that possiblity to me. What you have to remember is that christians often have personal reasons for believing in God. Onces that it may be hard to share with you on answers but that leave no doubt in our minds. I can't speak for everyone of course. Although I do also believe in God for scientific reasons. There are a lot of Christians out there who I don't think have any idea what they really believe or why. Those may be the people who keep repeating pat answers to you. I think though whether you are Athest, Agnostic, or Christian, it is interesting to discuss and hear different views.

Here we go again. A question asked for Christians and 30 Atheist answered it. You are really Christians if you answer to a Christian opinion. And by the way, there is a God, who chose to created this world through an evolution process.

I am not a Christian, nor part of any organized religion, but I do strongly believe in God.
However, I will concede that this God is not a "being" or an old guy with a white beard and flowing robes sitting on a throne in outer space somewhere.
The God I believe in is the process of life itself. The formless, genderless, eternal energy source of all life.
