I try to limit sweet cereals to the weekend. They love cookie crisp. But will eat vanilla creme shredded wheat, both as snack and breakfast. If I do sweet cereal for breakfast, I usually make sure to add fruit or cheese to go along with it.

My daughter loves Apple Jacks (she is two) I let her have it whenever she wants as well, it is so great now that they are making cereal with whole grains, there are a lot of great vitamins and things that they need that they can get from cereal. In our diaper bag I always have a container that holds snacks (theres nothing like a grumpy/hungry kid at the store, post office, etc.) and I keep Apple Jacks in there, goldfish crackers, sometimes some gummies (hey one bag has all the vitamin C they need in a day!) chocolate covered craisins, etc. So I say no don't limit the cereal if they are eating well in other areas, and I always try to offer something else if my child eats too much of her favorite food, chances are they will compromise eat a banana and if you are still hungry you can have a bowl of cereal.

my daughter is also 4. Evey night at dinner time i offer her what the rest of the family is having for dinner. she repeatively says, "cereal." We have tried saying no to her and trying to make her eat what we r eating. this doesnt work. she wont eat it. she is skinny too. Both my husband and myself were built very thin as kids. My doctor says she is very healthy, just tall for her age. I've chosen to let her eat her cereal for dinner if thats what she wants. She eats a healthy meal at lunchtime like soups, mac n cheese, or lunchmeat sandwiches. My daughter prefers cheerios, Life or shreaded wheat to the sugary stuff. I think as long as i continue only buying the decent cereals for her, it isn't really a problem. my son went thru similar food phases at the age of 4. kids grow out of this. relax. if she has a sweet tooth, try offering fresh fruit as a snack. both my kids love having fresh fruit in the fridg.

My 5 year old loves Corn Pops. He usually always has it for breakfast and only once in awhile I let him have it for lunch as well.
When he was 3 all he wanted was toast with jam and then waffles. I wouldn't worry it's just a phase.
By the way my kid is skinny too but is perfectly healthy.

You aren't going to believe it, but my 3 year old LOVES Raisin Bran! LOL She really likes me to put extra raisins on top. I only let her have it at breakfast, but she would eat it all the time if I let her.
But yes sugary cereals all the time are too much, there are better snacks than that.

I was always fond of Capt'n Crunch. My father and mother only allowed me to have it twice a day. Once for breakfast and once for a snack.
You can overload on sugar (Froot Loops are PURE sugar!). I would limit it greatly, maybe once or twice a day.
Good luck!

let him just have cereal in the mornings,it will make him mad cause he is use to it,then make him eat at noon, like veggies and potatoes and meats.and for dinner make him eat a natural dinner before giving him something sweet.my girlfriend wont give her daughter anything sweet until at night, and if she dont eat her reg. meal she dont get anything else.its not being mean its being a mother, you cant let a kid make up their own minds, their too young to make their own decissions, and when you tell him ,dont back down, all is what wrong with him is he is spoilt.he will give in to you when he sees crying and fussing wont do any good...good luck.

My oldest daughter loves fruity pebbles but my youngest daughter loves cherios. I let them have a bowl for breakfast and then I'll fill up a small bowl for each of them. Once that bowl is empty, they don't get anymore until the next day.
