I know some people that cheat at online poker sites for a living. They mask their IP's, they have several accounts, and usually play in the same room together. Sometimes the poker room will freeze their accounts but usually they have already cashed it out several times by then. All the poker rooms are offshore or in another country so they think they are pretty safe from prosecution. They are good, they will make other people in the room mad and they will bet up the pot just ask much as they do. Ppl in general are dumb.

There may be some cheating going on, however most online poker rooms sniff it out pretty quick and ban the cheaters. It is actually easier to catch people working on teams at internet poker rooms because their playing pattern is all tracked. It's called 'collusion' and yes, some people try. On the plus side, it's usually caught pretty quick and all winnings are void.

It's nowhere near as common as people sometimes think.

In any event, if you're really worried about coming up against this type of problem then I suggest you enter online tournaments rather than cash games. In tournaments, you are placed randomly on a table so any players attempting collusion will find themselves on different tables from each other!

Collusion does occur between two players at tables, but many of the best online casinos have software to fix this.

The casino I prefer has the best detection system and automatically monitors when players seem to have played at the same table often. They then will not let these players accounts play at the same table to deter anyone from even trying collusion.

The casinos have thought of ways to protect their customers. Fraud is obviously a concern and that is why they have taken precautions against it. I guess you could say, the casinos are one step ahead, as usual.
