It depends on the skills that you have, and whether you are using those skills in the job you have.

For example, a microbiologist with no secretarial experience is going to receive an entry level wage in an office (sometimes Microbiologists have to do this too!), and a secretary will have to expect entry level wages if learning to work in a lab, despite having 10 years general office experience.

I really believe there should be a minimum wage - here in Ontario it is $7.75 per hour (I think - could be wrong), which I think is low - I think it should be closer to $9.00 per hour, but then the market would support that, and the cost of eggs, bread, housing, etc., would have to go up or else business would go bankrupt and no one would be employed - just like the depression.

As an office administrator with 15 years experience and a college diploma, I make $16.50 per hour, and it is just enough to get by - it all depends on how tight the demand is for your skills where you live, and what the cost of living is. I live in an Ontario University town, with many government offices and the cost of housing is very high- I would not get the same amount if I worked in small-town Saskatchewan - but then again my housing would be 33 - 60% cheaper. Secretaries in Japan make over $50.00 per hour - but it costs $75.00 to go to a movie and have a bag of popcorn!

It is all relative to what you can buy with the amount you receive in the place where you live.

Paided??? is that even a word?? If I were you I'd stick to flipping burgers and asking people "Do you want fries with that"? Either Finish school or GO BACK! Now as far as how much should I be paid an hour, my skills are PRICELESS. Hubby hands over his check every Friday :-p

If it is an entry level job at, say, a gas station or a fast food place, you should get your state's minimum wage. Call your local employment office to find out what your state's current minimum wage is. If your prospective employer tries to pay you less, don't take the job. By the way, there is a lower minimum wage for wait staff, so check that out, too:)

If you are flipping burgers, then minimum wage ought to cover it. If you are a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, it could equal hundreds or thousands an hour.

It all depends on your skill level, education and the job your are doing.
