A kitten that is a month old will probably be able to survive without it's mother, but mentally it's much better for them to be with their mother until they are at least 8 weeks old, and ideally 10 to 12 weeks. Kittens taken away from their mothers too soon are much more likely to get sick as a youngster (the stress weakens their immunity) and then to have any number of behavior problems later on even as an adult cat. They learn things from their mother and siblings that a person can not teach them. Be patient and give your kitten plenty of time with his cat family. You'll be glad you did!

Right now you can start giving them Kitten Chow mixed with milk that is room temperature so they can begin to wean. At about 8 weeks they should be old enough to be taken off their mother's milk. Keep giving them KC that is softened and gradually decrease the milk a little at a time until you just moisten the food. By that time (4-6 months) they should be able to eat the KC w/o any milk at all.

6 WEEKS IS TOO SOON! 8-10 Weeks Is Better for the kitten. LEt the mom Kitty decide. Kittens that are left with the mom just a few weeks longer are calmer and are much more well adjusted. Trust me on this one.

At least 6 weeks old. Make sure the kitten is able to eat kitty food from a bowl and is drinking water first. I prefer to wait until they are 8 weeks before removing them from their mother and siblings.

It's best to wait till they are 7 to 8 weeks old before taking them away from their mother. Just remember it is VERY important to feed the kitten KITTEN FOOD. This will help reduce eye infections. In my personal experience, even if you don't see anything in their eyes, keep their eyes cleaned with sterile water. I mention this because it is VERY important to a new kitten owner to take care of the kitty's eyes. and remember: KITTEN FOOD. (Never feed any cat cow's milk.)

some do not end until eventually about 10 weeks yet many times the mummy comes to a decision even as to end. The mom teaches the cat each and every thing and per chance its merely no longer waiting to end. provide it time and about yet another week and if it doesnt end then get kitten nutrients and teach it to eat there or save them faraway from eachother for somewhat.

6 to 8 weeks.
But sometimes it isnt a bad thing to leave it with its mother alittle longer. The mother will teach it certain things... even how to meow for instance, cleaning itself, and using the litter box.
