John 3:16 God sent His only son to die to save you. How bad is that? However, the Bible also points to a God that punnishes the wicked and sinners. You love your child but if they are doing bad don't you punnish them and if someone kills or rapes your child do you want vengence on them? If we are so caring to our children how much more is God to us? Satan is the enemy to His children and Satan has his children too who follow him. God will punnish the wicked and all through the Bible all who were punnished deserved it. No matter how you feel, you would not be as forgiving as God and you would not be as just as He would be.

Well , speaking in worldly views, suppose you have a child, you need that child to be able to comprehend that there are prices to be paid for things that they do that are not good.

Running into a road is not a good thing, so you teach the child to fear the road.

If a child grows up without any fear of punishment, they cannot understand why they are punished by the world.

A heathy amount of fear over repercussions to actions and behaviors is needed in any society. Same thing with GOD

He tells us of behaviors that are wrong and what the punishments were for that behavior, so that we may have a healthy fear of what he can and will do , if we continue to disobey.

If he only showed us his loving side, we would never fear, and have no respect for him or anyone else.

One thing that I keep finding shining through in the bible, in both good times and bad times or behaviors is that GOD doesnt actually punish the outward sin. He punishes the inward sin, the sin of the heart

Lets say both Jacob and Esau were self centered and egotistical, and both did take advantage of each other most every chance they got.
Why did GOD pick Jacob over Esau? They were both pretty selfish, etc. GOD has the ability that we do not, that is to look into the heart of the person. Esau did not have the heart for GOD that Jacob had.

I am not too afraid of THE GOD who Created everything.

At least all of HIS History, the good and bad, is recorded in the Old and New Testament for all to read.

WE REALLY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO APPROVE OF THE GOD - HE MADE US.

Most other religions who are all ""peace and love"" are much more full of death and destruction than the True Christian GOD.

Hindu with its peace stuff have the untouchables and the death god Kalli.

Buddhists should full of peace and love, but I have seen them storming other monks temples and throwing each other off tall ladders.

I hope we do not have to touch on the religion that is sweeping the world right now with its LOVE martyrs blowing us and each other up. They can keep their moon god.

It is just possible that THE TRUE GOD has the right to display rightous anger and wrath. It just could be a good thing that HE is not just a bunch of MUSH!

God is not a push over and he is not just a God of love and peace but of Love. The old testament can be interpreted very differently depending upon how you view events. Look into the history of the people that God destroyed or defeated. The most barbaric times for the Jews were when the moved in to their promised land but you also have to look at the people who they fought and defeated. So sacrificed children regularly, others had horrible sexual practices. Evil things do not go unpunished and God gives people chances to change. Its not like the Canannites just desobeyed God once then he wiped them from the planet. Get to know God and you might start to see those passages in a new light also it might help if so historical research was done.

A further word about hell "in my opinion" is separation from God which is separation from Love, joy, and goodness. Not eternal punishment like being beaten to death over and over. The Bible says in hell there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth not persecution.

It should be a little scary. Thus "the fear of the LORD."

Which do you want? A God who is going to quietly wink at the world and allow rapists, murders, thieves and adulterers to quietly slip through life without so much as a scratch while their innocent victims lie hurt, dead, broke, and broken? Do you want a God who removes all free choice by removing the option of evil? Or would you prefer a God who allows free choice, and reserves all men and women for judgment at the world to come, where all will be rewarded or punished according to their deeds in this life? Some times God finds a situation that gets so bad that it needs to be dealt with now in order to preserve free choice. Look at Noah: he was a drunk, and he was righteous enough to be preserved from the flood, but no one other than his wife and kids were found to be as righteous. Look at Sodom and Gomorrah. Again, Lot was a drunk, and a whore monger. When God sent his angels, he wasn't looking for perfection, he was looking for ten people who wouldn't rape and kill you to get your money, but he couldn't find it. And yet, as long as free choice is still around, even if it's under the radar of the government and technically illegal, if you can still choose God and good, then God permits the society to continue. Is that really so unreasonable?

I am glad you are researching religions. But do not let the Bible scare you or someone give you false information. This is the biggest decision that you will ever make. Do not take it lightly. The Bible has so much factual documentation that has been found through the years substantiating the fact that The Holy Bible is the true living Word of God. There has not been one thing found that would make us dispute anything that is written in the Bible, only verifies it.
There are different churches you could go to but there is only one true Word of God and that is the Holy Bible.
There is only one way to God and Heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
You are more than welcome to look at my blog at: http://supplytheword.blogspot.com/ I try to put something on there every morning with scriptual refrence.
God Bless and above all things God is Love.

"Little by little, one city after another, one civilization after another, one culture after another, whose memories were enshrined only in the Bible, were restored to their proper places in ancient history by the studies of archaeologists... Contemporary records of biblical events emphasized by contrast and comparison... Nowhere has archaeological discovery refuted the Bible as history."

-John Elder "Prophets, idols and Diggers" (New York: Bobbs Merrill, 1960) p. 16

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A substantial proof for the accuracy of the Old Testament text has come from archaeology. Numerous discoveries have confirmed the historical accuracy of the biblical documents, even down to the obsolete names of foreign kings... Rather than a manifestation of complete ignorance of the facts of its day, the biblical record thus reflects a great knowledge by the writer of his day, as well as precision in textual transmission."

-Norman L. Geisler, William Nix "A General Introduction to the Bible" 5th Edition (Chicago: Moody Press 1983) p. 253

There is a facet of God's personality that is scary. If you watch God's nature of Love, Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness always prevail in the end.

It is why God does not apear as active now as the Biblical witness. We are in that time of Grace and Mercy. We are foretold that a time will come where God will set all balances equal again. I am guessing it will be a time that even Jesus suffering and death no longer balances out human atrocities.

Then God will be really scary for those not coverd by Jesus' sacrifice.

The bible is a simple book; neither good nor bad.

That some people believe it's a complete set of laws and moral standards scares me.

That some people use it to justify atrocities scares me.

That some people want to teach it to children as fact scares me.

But a book can never be scary in and of itself.

God is love and God will take care of His children ( christians ) so christians have nothing to worry about.

God is coming back in wrath and against those who refuse to repent and they will get what they want to be without God forever in the second death.

The core tenet of Christianity is that belief in God is rewarded while disbelief is punished. How a person behaves in life is essentially irrelevant to their prospects of entering heaven or hell.

This proves that the God of Christianity is selfish and evil. He should be despised, not worshiped.
