Hi, you can find herbal remedies that will help calm the dogs during the fireworks--find your nearest good herbal/eastern medicine type pharmacy if you can find one, then call & ask for either Rescue Remedy or Five Flower Essence-if the have it GET it, it will help, some at least. the 2 I mention are esentially the same thing sold by diff. companies..I think Bach's is the original Rescue Remedy, but if you can find F. F. Essense it will do same.
Try googling Rescue Remedy or Bach herbals or Five flower Essence to get more info.
One drop or two drops into fresh bowls of drinking water is the way the administer these.
Make your dog(s) thirsty if you need to by taking them our for play time or long walk.....then give them their new water bowls with the herbal solutions in it asap today because around here it's already begun lol..
i just brough my birds back inside temp. too! Dont want them to be scared, and the smoke from the fireworks is lethal to their delicate lungs.
Always read the packaging instrusctions for safety..I have dogs who are scared of the noise this time of year as well, and these herbals have helped.
Also Valerian root extract can be used-it is like herbal valium and safe to use just follow the same dosage, and read the packacking instructions thoroughly!
Lastly, for dogs who dont respond the herbals is valium...
My daughter who is a nurse has to give her 3 dogs their doggie valiums this time of year or they work themselves into a frenzy, all it does is make them feel calm, lazy & maybe drowsy.
I dont know the approp. dosage but i think it she uses a 1/4 of a 5 mill. valium tablet for each of her small dogs-so you would adjust dosage accordingly to size & weight of your own dogs.
***BUT i dont recommend this unless you have the right background & exp. Its not worth hurting the dogs, better for them to be scared for a day than OD on valium! Just wanted to let ya know all of the resources i have personal exp. with !
Best of luck to You and you Dog(s) too:)

Don't take your dog anywhere near the fireworks. If he's kennel trained, put him in his kennel where he'll feel safe.
If he's not kennel trained, put him in a bathroom with food and water and his bed and shut the door. Do this well before the fireworks start.
If you'll be home during the fireworks, it's okay to go in and give him a cuddle and talk calmly to him.

My dog freaks out b/c of fireworks every year. Does your dog have a "safe place". My dog does...in the chair under a blankie, or in his box under a blankie. Just put your dog in a place where it feels the most comfortable. Your dog may still be nervous, but it will be better off in it's "safe place".

They put bulletins up in our post office's here in Arizona. They say to put you dogs inside cats too! In the quietest room in your house if you leave them outside they may get away and you may never find them last year that was a big problem out here a lot of dogs were lost, some never found. and you could put a TV on or radio on for them to distract them from the noise. But do not blast it either.

act as normal as possible - so not reassure or act as though these are odd. TRy and divert attebntin by doing some training and pay ball or doggy games and reward dog for normal happy attitide with titbits. If dogs still unable to accept over time, then try a DAP diffuser - air freshner with pheronomes whcih can help settle

If you don't have a kennel for him put him in a small room like the bathroom with some of his favriot toys. It will help keep him from getting hurt and getting in the way. It will also help lessen the noise.

Play with him/her and try to keep their mind on something else. It's a scary thought for all those that have never experience this so its understandable if our pets freak out. Keep him/her indoors and sacrifice being out for taking care of him/her. You will see the appreciation in their eyes.

My dog is the same exact thing; you just have to let them be and let them calm down by themselves. She used to be worse, but she is MUCH calmed down. Give him/her all their favorite toys, and always cuddle with them during fourth of july weekend!
