I do not agree that all old people smell funny.
I have people at the church that are old and they smell very sweet, they are very protective with them self. If you are talking with some that are sick, you go ahead and see someone that is young and sick, they smell the same. Some old people cannot control their urine and that could bring unpleasant smell, it is not their fault. We all will go through the same stage as they are right now. We should appreciate our elderly people, because of them we have a future.
Lets be nice to them, we would no like no one to treat us the same way we are doing to them.
Tomorrow could happened to you.

Hey, maybe they need a little help -- just wait till you get so you can't remember to take a shower (or simply can't do it on your own)! Maybe the ingrates they spent half their lives raising have forgotten the sacrifices that were made by these "old people" and feel it's not their job to look out for their parents' needs.
Whew! Just venting a little... I'm only 40-something, but love the old folks! They are so cool, and we could all grow a lot by tapping into their wealth of experience and wisdom!

As people get old, their joints and muscles get weak making it difficult to wash certain areas of the body. I also agree that their sense of smell is undependable (senses wear out after so many years of operation or use), that is why some grandmas wear strong smelling perfumes or they smell like ancient moldy clothes.
We will all get old someday. Unfortunately, we will all go through that phase, so be nice!

They smell funny because they have experienced life for long

Their skin produces different oils as they grow older. Also their sense of smell gets worse, so they cannot smell changes in odor as well as a younger person

It's very simple. It just so happens that most of them neglect their hygiene. I work in a hospital and I get to experience that everyday. Most old people don't like to take baths/showers due to lack of help, afraid of falling, they can't stand up and for so many other reasons. But if it is lazyness, that can be avoided.

Old people don't really smell funny. They place moth balls in their cupboards, so in actual fact it is their clothes that smell so awful.

Diet change... Vegans smell differnetly from Fish eaters and egg eaters.
They dont stink of GRASS (the smokin kind)
