I agree with you on the criminals.. it is ridiculous how our gov't takes better care of them than they do the rest of the public.

If you have watched the news, there have been a lot of highly unfortunate crimes commited in Iraq by individuals that makes the military LOOK like we are no better than then insurgents/terrorist/foriegn fighters we are fighting against. This is highly unfortunate. If we had all the criminals, drug dealers, rapists, murderers, and other people like that in Iraq, we would be giving them machine guns and explosives and essecentially condoning their behavior and crimes. I would rather not have to see mass graves, rapes, tortures, and all sorts of sick and twisted crimes in Iraq that were made by people who are supposed to be representing American Foreign Policy.

You think there is a problem with the Iraqi prison now? or raping and murdering? I prefer sending the best of the best not the worst of the bunch. Besides They are trying to build a relationship with Iraq. I doubt they would want anything to do with those guys/gals. I do think that minor offenders could however be given the choise to serve or go to jail.

YO--AND THEN WE WOULD HAVE SOME MILITARY DISIPLINE-- EFFECTIVE AND TARGETED LOGISTICS--TO SAY ---FAR LESS OF THE DUDES GOING OFF ON NORMAL CITIZENS OVER THERE AND ALL THAT ----RIGHT ??
Where the hell does this come from--ever been in the military ?
Know what it takes to fight a war ?
Have one clue in hell what something like this would do to the Bill of Rights (even though I grant you I am no lover of criminals)
Want them to pay their way ?? Put them at public works projects like the ones they had under the old CCC plan way back when---we have national parks that need overhaul--and all kinds of other publicly beneficial things that they could be targeted toward---but be real here !!!

For arguments sake I am going to assume you are speaking in regards to the US Military. I will type slowly so you will understand. We in the United States enjoy an all volunteer(one who serves or acts of his or her own free will) force. Every single member raised their hand of their own volition and swore an oath. So why in the name of all this is holy would we want to fill it with criminals against their will?
When and IF we ever have to go back to a draft situation then perhaps your views will be given some consideration, but I somehow seriously doubt it. I for one would want the person covering my back to be loyal.

Would you really trust them to fight the war, or build up buyers, and make a fortune in Iraq? Criminals tend not to be the people who will sacrafice their lives for others.

Nah. If they had character enough to become a soldier they wouldnt be in jail to start with.
And to Tink: It is not up to the government to take care of us. Thats OUR own job. The government was never meant to give handouts to anybody. You live in the land of opportunity. So work for it.

no. those people are totally unreliable. they would not be able to do anything or make and progress and they would just make our country look stupid. i agree that they should do something, but shipping them off to Iraq (when we are trying to improve things over there) is not the answer.

We have honest hard working people fighting because we know we can trust them to do the right thing for us when the right thing needs to be done.

Because they are likely to point their guns at you.
Did you think about the problems you get by arming criminals?
