We've seen this question a couple times before. However, he would have gotten amnesty in 1986, so he'd be legal now.

Besides, since his home world was destroyed, he probably qualifies for asylum.

illegal employers who employee illegal immigrants are the problem,,, if there were no illegal jobs in America illegal immigrants would stay in their own country and work to help them grow prosperous, jobs for anyone other than American citizens in the USA should be ,,, well,,,, illegal,,

Nah .. he's not illegal ... he got asylum .. he's technically a refugee, because the world he came from is destroyed, so where would he be deported to?

Daily Planet, the newspaper he works at, sponsor him for a work permit (work visa.) So, he is legal.
