I recycle!
In San Francisco (near where I live) people on average recycle 70% of their waste. I take that as a motivational goal for me to do in my home as well.
I think some people here have forgetten that there are many facets to recycling... I reuse useful things such as ziplock bags, and I reduce the unecessary use of things like plastic bags and water.
Seeing that many paper products (toilet paper, printing paper, bags, plates, boxes, magazines, etc.) are now made of recycled paper I can't see how they'd be backpiled. Anyways, I'd rather see it all waiting to be used rather than taking space in a land fill.
Also-- for those of you who don't see a gain in recycling... I have a huge garbage can (made of recycled material) in my side yard just for bottles with the CRV symbol. Whenever it fills up I can make $40 easily! I think that's a huge gain for taking the small effort of throwing a peice of "garbage" into one bin vs another.

I have been recycling for 20 years. When we print out of our computer printers we only use recycled paper coming into the house that does not have writing on the back.
We have to pay for curbside recycling but do it every week. We recycle newspaper, glass bottles, metal cans and plastics. Regretfully only about 20% of people in our subdivision recycle. Hopefully communities will find recyclers who will take plastics above the number 2.

I don't recycle, but that isn't because I don't care about the environment. I have read many reports that state that really, by recycling, we aren't doing any good because recycling is so behind (huge buildups). Instead, I try to buy things in their most pure form and I don't take extra boxes, bags or the like and I compost.

Cardboard, paperboard, several types of plastics, paper, yard waste, different types of glass, etc.
The key, however is not only recycling, but just as importantly, using less resources. It is estimated that an American child will use more electricity by the time he/she is 6 than a child from an undeveloped country uses during their entire life! This is of course directly and indirectly... for example... how much electricity does it take to purify the water the child uses?
Just use a lot less than you are, and keep recycling everything that you can in your community.

Wheh I was a homeowner, I would recycle. In fact, the folks to handle the trash would greatly encourage it. They would provide us several trash cans to sort paper vs cans, etc. Now that I live in an apartment, there does not seem to be the same effort to encourage recycling. Everybody dumps everything into one large recepticle and everyday, they pick up. I've been told that there is some recycling once these private pickups get the trash. A man in our church collects cans and this is his only means of income. Apparently, he does well because he pays for all his expenses. I do collect newspapers and magazines and give them to the local hospitals, schools, etc. Many people use these to make greeting cards, art work, etc.

we have a recycling bin for all recycleables except for glass. We just moved into this town so I'm still looking for a place to recycle glass. Since we've been here, we've been recycling paper, mostly the paper our things were wrapped in, cardboard (moving boxes and cereal boxes), plastics, etc.

Why recycle??? Recycling is a way for big business to get you to do the work for them, all the while charging you more for the finished product...they save in materials and labor costs, essentially "double dipping" at your expense...so run on out and pick up some more slobber soaked beer cans for the environment. all plastics recycled are shredded and shipped to china for the fiber optics industry, you work for the chinese...hows that for the global economy

We do recycle ... soda cans and water bottles, newspapers and cardboard boxes, beer and alcohol bottles, paper cups and paper towel rolls. In fact, mostly everything that is biodegradable or reusable is recycled or composted.
Here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, every spring the city hosts a compost day. You can bring your bags and bins and fill them with all the fresh compost your lawn and garden can accommodate!
It takes a little more time to dispose of items this way, but it makes one feel part of the solution. And it keeps a lot of things out of the growing landfills, which attract bears and other scavengers.

now i feel very bad ! I do not recycle, but wish that i did.
where i live it is very hard to recycle, because there is none
such facilities.
if i had recycled, it would probably be paper. The trees decrease and
decrease and people just waste this environment.

mostly everything, though avoiding garbage is far better than recycling it. So I hardly buy any bottles or cans. Or products that are wrapped enormously.
I recycle paper, vegetables, plastic.
And I bring old electric equipment to special garbage sites.
