Hares don't chew cud, but that doesn't stop a clever apologist from speculating a harmonizing argument.

Here is a reliable source called Strong's Concordance. It's used by scholars that are Christian and otherwise. Here is what it has to say for arnebeth {ar-neh'-beth} which is the ancient Hebrew word found in Leviticus 11:6.
1) hare
a) probably an extinct animal because no known hare chews its cud, exact meaning is unknown, and best left untranslated as "arnebeth"
Now as to why the translators of the KJV used the word "hare"? It's not possible to know this side of eternity. For those who reject God and His Word they will never know. It appears to be implied that you are trying to make an excuse to not believe the Bible. One word out of one verse that has no doctrinal bearing seems like not much of an argument. So here is what I recommend, read the whole Bible and search for as many errors as you can possibly find, and then I will be more than happy to discuss it with you.

It is, like most of the bible, utterly false.
Rabbits do not chew thier cud. Nor are bats "unclean birds" as described in Leviticus. And SOOO many others.
Jeez, for a "perfect" being, his manifesto sure is a pile of dog-crap isn't it?

True! The rest of the scripture says dont eat it though because it does not have a divided hoof. He is unclean to you. These laws were laid down for health reasons. You can eat pretty much whatever you want. If you eat according to the word you will be healthy.

To: emma.
Yes I can.
4 legged insects We all know insects have 6 legs. What you don't understand is this.........
Insects, "walk", on 4 legs. The back 2 are for jumping.
There is a reason for the Word, to keep ignorant people from it. Seek, you shall find. Only the serious, and led people, searching for Truth, will find it. Others remain blind.
Go figure.

Obviously whoever wrote that bit hadn't seen many rabbits.
I like 11:20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
Anyone name any 4 legged creeping fowls?
