Yes. It is, and has been the biggest cause of conflict in the world. ( crusades, inquisitions, etc.) Religion is a weapon of mass destruction. It is more harmful and dangerous than guns. It causes tension, and war. Without it, we would be safer.

I hate how people single religion out.
The world would be a better place if a few other things were cut out of the equation aswell such as:
War
Murderers
Aids
Illnesses
Peadophiles
What this all comes down to are the terrorists and the extremists that become fanatical about Religion and it's teachings.
These types of people do not even belong to a Religion as to belong to a religion you must follow it's rules and usually those rules preach that of a harmonious way of life and there are certain things ( such as murder, stealing, cheating...) that are not condoned.
To not condone to the rules of Religion is to not condone to the Religion itself.
Those who do follow Religion correctly, sanely and properly, i think you will find are not people of war or immense hatred and are not even close to being capable of commiting such terrorist acts.
Spiritual belief and free-thinking will never be cut out of the equation.

Yes, A lot less population control through " Fear " and A lot less hypocritical morons running around thinking their the all mighty and supreme.
" My god is better then your god "
Bunch of babies!
So If anyone can go to heaven by repenting their sins, those that live the poor life day in day out , have nothing to eat on a daily basis cause they cant afford it, go to heaven because they have repented and believe,
yet the money hungry suits can distroy the world for their own profit, live the high life and never see the pains of the real world, they too can repent their sins and be in heaven even if they made slaves out of an entire world?
so when the poor and true die and end up in heaven next to these bastards, wouldn't that really be their everlasting hell?
To many loop holes in organized religion.

I ask of you...what is religion? Involved with religion is morality. Without religion then there is no basis for morality or for justice because that is also a religious question. Science explains very little about the world we live in. Science itself only answers questions of what if? Religion answers the question of why. Why am I here? What is my purpose in life? I you take away religion then you also take away these questions and leave people with no answers. Besides can religion be removed? Take away someone's ability to express something will they then not still try to express it. Also the Bible is the most persecute book in the world. It has been banned and burned since its creation but it is still here. Why?

Your spiritual [Religious] beliefs are personal and should remain that way, In my opinion. It is the 'Organised Religion' of all creeds that is a huge factor in all wars e.g. Ethnic cleansing in recent history in Europe; and the Crusades of history. Organised religion also murdered thousands during the times of the 'Spanish Inquisition'. The world would be a better place if religion was cut out of the equation, in my opinion.

Religion has fueled more humanitarian efforts than anything. Most charities and hospitals have some affiliation with a church or religious organization.
The one thing I don't understand about people's criticism of religion (particularly Christianity) is that they cannot distinguish between the ideals of the religion and man's use and/or manipulation of those principals.
Yes, I could start up a church tomorrow and tell my parishoners that they will go to Hell if they don't give me half of their paychecks or their women or whatever. Is this an indication of the so-called "evils" of Christianity/religion, or is it an indication of my evil? Inasmuch as the Bible would not support such actions, it would be an indication of MY evil. The Bible doesn't support that kind of authority.

No it wouldn't. The fact is religion keeps most people going. The belief that one day all of their good deeds will be awarded, is what many people live for. And without a religion or a God people wouldn't care or have any reason to do good deeds like help the poor, feed the children, etc. The point is religion puts in us morality, we force ourself to do the right thing, believing that God is watching and He will be proud.
The world would be a horrible disaster if there was no religion... for people wouldn't care. I mean there would be no fear of Hell or disappointment. So they would murder and commit adultry and etc. to the fullest extent.

The world would be a lot worse, because people would feel a lot more insecure without a faith. Religion makes you feel much safer and hopeful, and we'd have a lot less of that if religion wasn't included in the equation.

our laws today reflect the beliefs of the bible. without religion what would we have, there would be no way to judge the criminals that agitate our society.laws would be set in stone based upon an individuals beliefs rather than societies interpretation of right and wrong. The belief that good and evil exist is a direct reflection of our own society. the world is a place that only exists through the belief of religion. Laws that govern our society is not only based upon religion , but past testaments of the good book. our world would become unruly, unjust, and just plain uncivilized. religion plays an important part in our society, so in conclusion i believe( and this is only my belief) without religion the world would become a misguided and unruly self-centered locale for the mischievous minded thugs who try their best to control us. fear would be amongst our children, elderly and possibly even you.

NO. I think that people need religion to give them hope. I am not a religious person in the slightest. I am Pagan which is more about respecting nature and respect for other living things but it is not a religion. However, people would be destroyed if you took their religion away. It gives people hope in the face of their fear of the unknown (i.e. death) and, for some, it keeps them on the straight and narrow for fear of never getting to Heaven.
