I think parents get too involved when-
1. Their child doesn't want to play the sport and the parents make him/her.
2. The sports schedule is so demanding no one in the the rest of the family can do anything. ( Siblings and parents)
3. They say they want a college scholarship for their child.( All the coaching and travel expenses cost more than college- eventually) Also it is hard to go thru college and play a sport for the school at the same time.
4. When the parents start yelling at the other players or refs.
5. When the parents put the child down after each game or critic their game skills after each game.
I think after a child is about 11 years old a parent needs to back off and let the child do the sports he wants to do. Before that parents should sign up for a variety of sports sop children can see what they like or are best at.
