downloading means transferring a file from a web server to ur system... the opposite of uploading...

Copying files from the Server to the local comp is called Downloading and copying the files from local sys to the server is called Uploading.

eg to download a file from a machine into your machine, this can be anything from a document, video, game, movie, application etc.
