b/c they're living vicariously through their children.

Why? Because they are living through their child. They want to either re-live their glory days or they never had gotten the chance for themselves to do what their kids are getting the chance to do.
And it is sad. Especially if you keep telling the kid that "winning is everything" and passing the guilt trip when they "fail" to your goals. That is why so many kids resent their parents and do not want to play in sports. not only that, but, cheer leading as well.
All of this is to make the parents themselves look better. It is like a competition for parents against other parents with children involved.

well I think the parents watch too much tv and think their kid is the next super star and if they become one,,,the kid will take them to stardom also,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,that and some parents have never played any sports,,but just because they watch sports, they are now an expert on the sport,,,and in some case's the parents did play sports,,might have been good at it,and feel ALL KIDS are good at sports and ALL WANT TO PLAY like mom/dad, just an opinion of mine

i dont think that its because they are trying to live their life through their children. i have 7 bros & sis'. my parents are in every sport we do. im 16 and after 16years of this i believe its because they feel like they are loosing their little angels and they want to keep you as long as they can. but it could also be that they are just trying to connect with you. geez they are human give them a chance!

my bff's dad is wayy to crazy about her softball. she is very good, but he is too serious. i think it is because she dosent get very good grades in school, adn he wants her to be a pro-player so she can make a good life for herself. she just wants to play for fun but he is pushing too hard. hes also a football coach though, so i think that he dosent want her to be one of those players that is not dedicated to her team and screws the coach and team over all time, because he knows the problems that causes.
