The best type of teacher is one who is obviously passionate about what they are teaching. They have to have enthusiasm and be intellectual as well as humorous and laid back. I find, however, that the best quality of a teacher is when they don't treat you like a student, but like an equal and they accept your ideas and values and make you think outside the box. When a teacher treats you like an adult and talks to you like one, you know you have a great gift which is so rare nowadays.

His or her personality is one. If they have the personality and the enthusiasm to make you want to learn the subject they are teaching, that is really positive.
if they make you feel like you can do anything and encourage you and become a fan of wanting to help you succeed, that is another thing as well.
It also would be nice if they have a sense of humor about the subject at hand or the way of going about the subject-you know, to "break the ice". That is what I would look for in a teacher.

Enthusiasm, samu! If he/she is excited about the subject being taught, I'm going to enjoy the class. Also, humor - the teacher can't freak out everytime someone comes up with a smart alecky answer. Organization is also something I'd look for, as well as a thorough knowledge of the subject.

open mindedness, intelligence, understanding, strict but not mean about it, a sense of humor, has to be someone that I can talk to.
My best teachers have always been like that. I had a lit teacher in college a year ago that I would share books back and forth with. We would discuss them and she would help me understand points I wasn't getting in her class. She was very smart and open to anything I had to say and never told me I was wrong, but helped open me to other possibilities. But yet she was very strict about people being in class and doing their work. I am very good at getting my work done but I have trouble getting my butt to class, but because of her I only missed one day of class that semester, and it made me feel good that people who didn't do their work didn't get let off the hook.
