Well both of my cats who have passed on had to be put to sleep due to their illnesses (they were 16 and 12 when they died). The overnight vet's office had them cremated (I did not keep the ashes- I thought that was a little creepy). They were nice enough to shave off a little of each cat's hair and put it in a Ziploc for me, so I have their hair as a memory. My regular vet's office also had a donation made in each cat's name to a veterinary university and I got mailed a letter saying "a donation has been made in memory of your cat" and the cat's name. I still have both letters, filed away.

We cremated our two cats when they died only two months apart a few years back. One was only 10 and died of illness, the other had lived a long, happy 17 years and died of old age (and perhaps heartbreak of losing his friend). We wanted them to be with us always, and now they are. I like looking at their urns and knowing that they're still with us in some way.

A lot of people do cremate their pets. Some people like to be able to have their pets close, others may choose to do it so their pet can move with them in case they move to another home. There are also alot of different styles of pet urns. Some urns can be used to hold the cremains, or just used as a memorial. I had a cat urn made, and it was painted to look like my cat. I found it at www.thewhimsycat.com and there were several cat shaped urns to choose from and even dogs too. I have even seen angel cat urns and outside concrete cat urns. But always remember that your pets memories are always alive in your heart!

I don't have a cat but I had a dog and when we found out he was run over by a car, animal control took his body, and I made a small raft out of some scrap wood (think Huckleberry Finn) and painted it white. Then I made a wreath out of grape vines and flowers from my yard and at night time we all went down to the river. I set the wreath on the raft and put a votive candle in the middle and set her free down the river. We watched its journey down the river as far as we could see, and it was almost as if it represented his life...everlasting.

Well I didn't have a cat but I did have a dog and when she died we buried her in our backyard next to this patch of flowers we have. We put down a small statue next to her that has a little prayer on it. It is simple but nice.

When Old Bear died, we buried him and planted Sweet Williams on his grave, then sat around talking about him and maybe drawing pictures (chiefly for my 5 year old nephew, who was very upset).

Get another one. You can remember your cats that have passed away by putting flowers on their grave on memorial day, playing taps at the burial, and in prayer.

I cremated my kitty and decorated the little box her ashes are in with pictures of her being silly, and just being herself. It makes me happy to remember the good times.
