I think 11 or 12 is too young for dating. This is the time for group activities - hanging out, having fun. By 14 you can go to group dances. I would hold out on dating until age 16, and even then stick to double dating or group dating as much as possible. People don't need to be in a hurry to get involved with someone. It's better to make friends and have a variety of people in your social circle - you can accomplish more that way as well. Some people might be good to work on homework in a specific class, or someone might be good at playing in a band with you. Be friends first, and then if something else happens later on you can build on that. Even though I had a boyfriend through much of high school, I went out with a couple of other people as well.

As the mom of a 13 year old I think I'm one of the best people to answer this question because if you don't have kids that age you really don't know.
12 is too young for singles dates, however group dates, like going to the movies with a group of friends, etc, is ok. Dating at 12 is not good for a kid because they are just reaching puberty and really don't need to be alone with a girl at that age.

no, I do not think a guy (he is not a guy, he is a preteen) should date at that age. Maybe when he is like 14 or 15 years old. Not 12.
And, besides, if he starts to date at 11 what age would his "girlfriend" be, between 9-12? That's sick. Have him wait until at least 14.

I think it depends on his maturity level. 11 or 12 might be too early to actually date, but you can still hang out with someone. I'd wait until you start high school (about 13/ 14 years old) to officially date.

well i'm 13 and my friends have been goin out with ppl some since second grade. when ur 12 or 11 ur not realy datin cuz u can't come adn pick eachother up and go to the movies or anything. ur just goin out cuz u like eachother. and sometimes though it's bad for 12 and 11 year old kids to be goin out becuz they start takin it to seriously and start actin like they're married. not to mention doin things that they should not be doin at 11 and 12.

No. I don't think he should date till at least 16. Putting himself in a situation where he could get a girl alone is hard on teenage hormones. Wait till later, don't have sex till you are married, and go slow. You have alot of living to do. Enjoy being a kid while you still can. Girlfriends are trouble. Sex can make you a Daddy. And bills suck!

i say middle school. 6th grade, middle school, 12 same thing. i say yes. Many kids at my son's middle school go to the movies by themselves, with no adults. I let him go to the movies and on dates just as long as there are 3 other ppl.
