First please read the following;
Mt 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
Mt 8:29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Mt 8:30 And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding.
Mt 8:31 So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
Even the demons knew HE was the Son of GOD.
But they didn't know HIM.

I think the best way I can answer this for you is to ask you a question.
If someone gives you a check for A Thousand Dollars and you never cash it do you really have a thousand dollars?
The answer to that is this: as long as the check remains un-cashed the money belongs to the person that wrote it. It is not until you actually cash it and take the money into your hand that you really have the Thousand Dollars.
It is the same way with Christ Jesus, even though you know about Him until you actually accept the gift of Salvation you have not accepted Him, however once you accept His Gift of Eternal Life you Know Him because He then resides within you and you become a child of God through Christ Jesus by the Holy Blood He shed upon the cross and through His resurrection from the tomb.
Someone that has never accepted Christ cannot know this because they do not know what it is like to actually feel His touch or hear His voice. If you are truly seeking and really want to Know Jesus just ask Him to forgive you of your sins and help you to live a life for Him. At that point you will Know the answer to your question and have no doubt that He is real.

Hi Tom,
many of us already answer you on a biblical basis. I take a different approach and make simple to you. The street where you live, many people know you(they see you) but your close friends and family know about you. Everybody knows Jesus but to know about Jesus demands time spent with Him, time to create an intimacy. Just like your regular friends, the more time you spend together the closer is the tie between you and them. Spend time with the Lord and He will invite you to be a closer friend. By experience I say that it is a relationship that brings peace into your life. Trusting Him is all you have to do.

Yes if you know Jesus in your heart he helps you to understand that the most important thing to remember is to love your neighbor. This is all he really cares about because he knows that if you do this everything else will work out fine for everyone involved.
If you just know about Jesus this usually amounts to thinking you know because someone else has told you what they think about Jesus. Problem with this is a lot of people have some pretty strange ideas about Jesus.
They have turned his life that we can learn so much from, into something that takes a back seat to a giant guilt trip about the way he died.
I have seen oatmeal cans with a mirror at the bottom placed at the level where children can look into them with signs on the side that say look inside to see who Jesus died for. The children look inside and of course see themselves.
This kind of intentional guilt induction is not religion it is simply child abuse. Read what Jesus said yourself, see what he stressed over and over. Don’t listen to someone else’s often bigoted version of Jesus

Absolutely.
Knowing Jesus is personal, He is a living person.
Knowing about Jesus is historical, He is a fact of history.
Check out the facts and get to know Him here: http://www.standontherock.org/grace.html

Yes. For instance you may know about Chuck Berry but to know Chuck Berry is different than knowing about the man.
Same thing regarding whether knowing Jesus and knowing about Jesus is a different thing.

no, you know Him when you study the word because he is the word...John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Rev. 19:13 ... and His name is called The Word of God. so if you know the word you know him but be careful because Satan know the word too and used to destroy you if you really do not know God and love him and obey him...Satan tempts Jesus Matthew 4:1 to 17 with the word so if you know the word then you know God and he real know you if you obey Him and do not fall for the temptation of the sins...Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, an stronghold in the day of trouble and he knows those who trust in him. and if you want to know a real Cristian Matthew 7:16 You will know them by their fruits...Galatians 5:22 the fruits of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering,kindness,goodness,faithfulness,gentleness,self-control, the ones that show to you this fruits are real Cristian's...

Yes knowing Jesus and knowing about him are two different things. Knowing about Jesus is knowing that yes he exist and that their are people who believe in him, but knowing Jesus is knowing his story and believing in him and having a closure walk with him.

Knowing about jesus could be the same thing as knowing about jupiter.
But knowing jesus is when you can sincerely say "yeah he is my friend" It means you have a one on one relatioship with him.
These statements are really different. The second one can be likened to you knowing your best friend vs knowing about the strange girl in your class. :)
