York is really nice with good shops and a canal to walk along, but VERY expensive. York is very historical, and a visit to the railway museum is a must, and that is free!
Save your money and shop in Leeds where there are more shops and is cheaper than York. Leeds is brilliant for shopping and people from York travel there as it is cheaper. train service is good and the train station is almost central to the city. In fact it is called Leeds City Station. Parking is not only hard to find but VERY expensive though, so travel by train if you can.
Newcastle is a good place too and they have the Metro Centre where you can shop for a week there. Newcastle has a bad reputation for clubbing though and people travel from London to have stag and hen night out there.

Up north - least puzzling way is the Glasgow or Edinburgh practice from Manchester, get off at Penrith, bus to Keswick (30 minutes),and walk to Casterigg, back to penrith on the go back bus direction, no longer certain a thanks to get to Brough on public shipping yet there should be bus from penrith. most inexpensive ideas are once you could e book in develop - and in many circumstances the coach will be more not pricey yet no longer consistently - brilliant to envision the dates nd circumstances with the bus organizations and thetrainline (or similar) for the trains. shipping direct is yet another website to envision. For lengthy journeys attempt megabus. Trains are maximum accessible for lengthy journesy yet them close by busses
