The Vadican
Luther was not the first person to make the claim that the pope is the anti-Christ. John Wycliffe came to the same conclusion some 200 years before Luther did. Unlike Luther, Wycliffe had everything to loose and nothing to gain from proclaiming this, but he did it anyway because that is what he believed. Let us examine the facts.
What is the beast (the anti-Christ)? It is a religious power that rises out of Europe after the fall of Rome (and 3 of the tribes of the fallen empire are taken out) that acts as sovereign nation. It has much wealth and wants to change the laws of God.
"And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. “(Daniel 7:24 - 25 KJV)
The history of Europe settles the matter. There were 10 kingdoms that formed directly after the fall of Rome. After three kingdoms were taken out (the Vandals, Lombards, and Huns), the "Bishop of Rome" rose to power and formed what we now know as the Roman Catholic Church and this position is now known as the pope. With this power, the pope has changed God's times and laws. Many Christians no longer observe the Sabbath (God's time and God’s law) because the pope has instituted Sunday worship; the Roman Catechism even has a different set of Ten Commandments in it than the Bible's. It is also obvious that this kingdom represented by the little horn is different from all the others. The Vatican is a nation that has great wealth (the little horn wares an expensive crown earlier in Daniel chapter 7) but is very small (like a little horn among big ones) and is wholly ruled by a religious leader unlike any other nation in Europe today. The Vatican is a nation because the USA has an ambassador to the Vatican.
There are even more clues to point to the papal system as being the anti-Christ.
"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast." (Revelation 13:3 KJV)
The pope was taken out of power and made prisoner (wounded) in 1798 by Napoleon. But, the pope was miraculously healed from his deadly wound in 1929, by Premier Mussolini if Italy who gave the pope all his power back!
The whole world has wondered after the pope. Just look at everyone that attended the funeral of the late John Paul II - leaders of almost every nation in the world!
Also, we find this of the anti-Christ. " And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. (Revelation 13:5 - 6 KJV)
What is blasphemy? "The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God." (American Heritage Dictionary)
Does the pope blaspheme?
"Against this background of love towards Holy Church, 'the pillar and bulwark of the truth' (1 Tim 3:15), we readily understand the devotion of Saint Francis of Assisi for 'the Lord Pope', the daughterly outspokenness of Saint Catherine of Siena towards the one whom she called 'sweet Christ on earth'" (Pope John Paul II, Apostolic Exhortation VITA CONSECRATA, (On The Consecrated Life And Its Mission In The Church And In The World), March 25, 1996.)
"The Pope is of so great dignity, and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God. and the vicar of God." (Ferraris Ecclesiastical dictionary)
"All names which in the Scriptures are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is established that He is over the church, all the same names are applied to the Pope." (On the Authority of the Councils, book 2, chapter 17)
"The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth." (Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Chapter XXVII, p. 218, "Cities Petrus Bertanous")
"The Pope takes the place of Jesus Christ on earth...by divine right the Pope has supreme and full power in faith, in morals over each and every pastor and his flock. He is the true vicar, the head of the entire church, the father and teacher of all Christians. He is the infallible ruler, the founder of dogmas, the author of and the judge of councils; the universal ruler of truth, the arbiter of the world, the supreme judge of heaven and earth, the judge of all, being judged by no one, God himself on earth." (Quoted in the New York Catechism)
""To believe that our Lord God the Pope has not the power to decree as he is decreed, is to be deemed heretical." (the Gloss "Extravagantes" o.f Pope John XXII *** inter, Tit. XIV, Cap. IV. Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium, Paris, 1685)
I would say he dose!
I think the papal system matches up with the anti-Christ too much to be a coincidence.

The Anti-Christ is going to be a person. He/she is probably alive already today. Based on the information the Bible (Daniel,Revelations) provides, he/she will probably emerge from European Country.
I will admit that the Muslim Messiah could also very well fit the identity of Anti Christ, incredible similarities, but who's to say that that person (the 12th imam) would not be living in Europe.
Read insert from raptureready.com :
One is left to come upon the scene–the final world governmental system represented in Nebuchadnezzar’s prophetic dream as the feet and toes made of iron mixed with clay. This final world kingdom, we believe, is far along in the process of coming together today in the form of the European Union (EU). The fifth world empire symbolized in the statue is prophesied to be an extension of the fourth kingdom. That is exactly what the EU is –an extension of the ancient Roman Empire. It is, we are convinced, the feet and toes of the man-image, the reviving of the unity that was once Europe in all its power and glory. Yet, despite the tremendous power the final form of the Roman Empire will have, the clay mixed with the iron seems to indicate it will have significant weaknesses.
Again, we must, for the sake of proper focus, mention the given prophecies that have been already fulfilled, only briefly. The first of those is the king’s dream of the tremendous metallic man-image, which the great prophet Daniel interpreted. The other prophecy most relevant to looking at the European Union as figuring into prophecy yet future is also found in the Book of Daniel:
“And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate” (Dan. 9:26-27).
This all-encompassing prophecy foretells plainly that the final world ruler, Antichrist, will rise out of the Roman Empire. Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD under the leadership of Roman General Titus. The future Roman leader (“the prince that shall come”) is prophesied to be a dictator like no other in history.
This “prince that shall come” will come as a peacemaker, confirming a covenant of peace with Israel. He will, at the halfway point in the seven-year peace agreement, invade the Jews’ Temple and destroy their worship. Thus will begin the great tribulation, or “Jacob’s trouble,” the last three and one-half years of the seven years of Daniel’s seventieth week (the tribulation era).
Once again, we refer you to other articles within raptureready.com for more in-depth background. We must move forward now from the times in which the prophecies were given into the more recent past, the present, and the prophetic future in dealing with the matter of the European Union in prophecy.

The Antichrist will not be from the UNITED STATES as some of the other people must think who answered this. the BIBLE states he will rise from the middle east! I believe he is alive today waiting to be known, I believe we are living in the last days also because the Bible tells us what is going to happen in these days, and what it says is going on now. its going to be tough these last days. we can pray that we can be taken into heaven and escape being here when the Antichrist rules the world.

FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, which I believe is correct due to faith, the Bible says that the people will not know the Antichrist until the Rapture(see Bible about Rapture). God points out that he will be a very popular person among the people, but he won't rise to power until the Rapture. He might not even be alive, but my personal opinion, I believe he is because I believe this is the End of Days. If you want additional information about the Antichrist, read the Bible.

The anti Christ is not a person.
It is a term that is meant to be descriptive of the way certain pseudo Christians pretend to be followers of Jesus. They are a minority, but they are so vocal they drown out the rest.
Jesus always stood for a loving, inclusive, nonjudgmental approach to his fellow man.
The bigot pseudo Christians see their brand of Christianity as an exclusive club from which they judge all others as being unworthy of any fate other than burning in hell.
Their actions are almost the exact opposite of what Jesus Christ taught.
Hence the name antichrist, or opposite of Christ.

No one knows this until he sits on the throne, claiming to be a pope and commanding people to worship him instead of Our Lord. It doesn't look to be too far from now though.... The last five posing popes have stopped worshipping God and started worshiping humanity. They are helping usher in the Antichrist gradually so when he does take this "throne" it won't be very obvious to many.

Sin is serving oneself by and massive. Jesus stated- the most perfect between you (the saints) notwithstanding, is servant of all of them. So, individual who has Christ will be an unselfish individual. Be the man who will be there even as a chum desires them- no longer in straight forward words to talk with, yet on transferring day, even as they want a helping hand. even as the chips are down. The Christ-filled individual gained't carry grudges, will be merciful, sort, etc, each of the best things. when we enable selfishness rule- that purely shows someone that we've Christ in words in straight forward words, and not in any respect genuinely alive in us. So it supplies the call "Christian" a really very undesirable attractiveness certainly. BEing a Christian is so a lot more desirable than "going to church" on the selected sabbath and conserving prayers.

He is supposed to come from the Middle East.
He is in existance Right Now. (some people think it may be Osama Bin Laden:) (No one can catch him)??? Just be sure that you will be
Ready, when The Rapture takes place, if you are still on Earth. No one will be able to Buy or Sell--without the Mark of the Beast. You will be beheaded, if you Believe in God. If you stand your ground, if you didn't make the Rapture, but
you changed your mind about God, knowing He exists, and call on Him, you may be beheaded--But, you'll be Saved. The Bible says "He that tries to Save his Life, Will Lose It. If you Worship the Anti-Christ to Save Yourself, when you Die, you will be lost, anyway. The Anti-Christ will perform "Miracles," and Some of God's very elect, will be fooled into believing that it is God.

this is from a muslim point of view
In Islam there is a "Messiah" and an "Antichrist" still to come and their rules are not well known to most people outside the Muslim world.
The Muslim Messiah (Mahdi):
The Mahdi (divinely guided one) is an eschatological figure who Muslims believe will come to bring about a time of justice and peace and a unifying of the world under Islam and Islamic law just prior to the final Judgment. He will come after a time of great trials and confusions where the world will seem to be in danger of self destruction.
The Mahdi is expected in both the Shiite and Sunni traditions.
Shiites created the office of the "Imam" ("leader" or "guide"), who were infallible, one for each generation, the only source of religious instruction and guidance, and all in direct line of Ali. There were 12 Imams since Ali; the last one, the 12th, went into hiding in 940, and he will emerge later to rule the world as "Mahdi" ("Messiah"). For this reason they are also called the "Imamites" or "Twelvers".
The present "Ayatollahs", ("signs of God") see themselves as joint caretakers of the office of the Imam, until he returns at the end of time. The "Ayatollah Khomeini" claimed that he was a descendant of the 7th Imam, and hence the rightful ruler of the Shiites.
In the Sunni tradition the prophecies of the Mahdi are developed in the Hadith, the sayings of the Prophet Mohammed and his early followers. It has played a part in Sunni eschatological expectations and history. During the conquest of Spain, for example, the leader of the Muslims was, according to Muslim traditions, thought by his followers to be the Mahdi. This helped create the fervor as they swept across Southern Europe believing they were on their way to bring the whole world to Islam under the Messiah whose conquests were to usher in the Final Judgment.
This Islamic Messiah often sounds like the Christian Antichrist of Revelation 13 in the Bible.
The world power and influence in religious, economic and social matters reminds the powers and rule of the First Beast of Revelation 13:1-10, and the miraculous signs reminds those of the Second Beast of Revelation 13:11-18.
The Muslim Antichrist (Dajil or ad-Dajjal):
At the end of times there will also come the Muslim Antichrist (Dajil) who will try to discredit Islam and the Prophet with lies and so undo the work of the Mahdi. He will convince large groups of people with false claims of prophecy and miracles involving fire and the raising of the dead.
But Jesus Christ, who in the Muslim tradition is still physically alive (having never died, rather than having been resurrected after death), will return to earth. Jesus will discredit Dajil and then physically kill him with a spear. According to some of the Hadith, one of the consequences of Jesus' return is the conversion of the Christians to Islam who Jesus himself corrects of their false beliefs. The Mahdi and Jesus will then live out the rest of their lives on earth, since Jesus must die before the final judgment. This will be brief time of peace and prosperity. After his death, in some traditions, Jesus is buried next to Mohammed. Jesus returns, however, now fully in Heaven, to judge, as the word of God, at the last judgment.
Both Shiites and some Sunnis believe in the coming of Mahdi, Dajil and Christ at the end of time although the narrative constructions differ

That information is not given in the Bible, though many have claimed to have figured it out.
There is one thing I do know. I don't have to worry about the anti-christ because he will have no influence on my life.
Jesus is my Lord and I trust in Him for my salvation and for the power to live a life of freedom on this earth.
