I was told that 3 hours is enough. Is this true? I want to see as much as possible.

We went to Pompeii last month. Plan on spending most of the day. It's fascinating to walk around and explore--I suggest getting a good guidebook or purchasing the audio tour at the entrance. And, as someone else mentioned, a hat and bottle of water are essential--it can be very hot and there's not a lot of shade!! And perhaps a picnic lunch, since the food prices are pretty outrageous!

If you really enjoy Pompeii, you might consider visiting the Museo Archaeologico in Naples, which has a lot of objects that were removed from Pompeii.

buon viaggio!

Spend 2-4 hours, it is about how long you need to work through the ruins. If you are going on a hot summer day plan to spend only two hours because Pompeii can get pretty hot. when I went it was over 100 degrees. Make sure to bring a hat and plenty of cold water, there are not many places to hind from the sun in Pompeii. If you are interested there are many different day tours that go to Pompeii, those are a good deal because you get to really learn about the history from the Tour Guide. Many of the tours include lunch and pick you up at your hotel.

I have taken groups to Pompeii. We usually spent a half day there, but the only complaints I have ever gotten was that we should have spent more time, so now I spend the entire day there and I haven't gotten any complaints since. I always include a half day tour of the Museo Archeologico in Naples the day before touring Pompeii. There are many artifacts there from Pompeii which help to explain and prepare you for Pompeii itself. I also recommend you have a guide, who will make the experience much more interesting and informative.

If you are planning a trip, I would be happy to assist. I am a travel Agent. My agency is in Ohio. Send me an e-mail with your planned dates, as well as what you wish to see besides Pompeii.

Spend as long as you possibly can Pompeii is very large and there's a lot to see. I'd recommend a whole day.

4 hours will be good enough. Be sure to use the map that you get with your entrance so that you can maximize your visit to all the great sites. I was there for a little bit over 3 hours and I didn't take adavantage of the time because I was just wondering all over the place. The place is HUGE.. Sadly, I didn't get to see a lot of the famous frescoes.

l spent most of a day, it was amazing. Bring more film than you
think you'll need, plus a hat & water. In the summer the place can be very hot & for some reason not a lot of shady places.
