My parents were going to buy me a pomeranian for my birthday that was about a month ago, but couldn't find a "suitable" breeder. I have 2 younger siblings and a keeshond, and we have a hectic schedule that leaves us home from only like 3 pm. - 9 pm. before bed. Is a pomeranian a good breed to have with the little time that we have? Is it good with our keeshond? What about grooming??

OK,first thing, dogs need a lot of attention. You should probably have an outside dog if you wont have much time to spend at home because it would be difficult to potty train a dog if you cant keep it on a regular schedule. Also, sometimes smaller dogs dont get along well with other dogs if they werent raised together. Another thing is that poms require a little bit of daily grooming to keep the coat healthy and they shed a lot. And toy breeds like that arent the best to be around younger children. If your younger siblings are about 7 or older that would be ok but toy breeds arent good around younger children because they can be easily hurt. Small dogs like that are also prone to asthma, arthritis, and back problems. On the positive side, theyre very loyal and protective and make good watch dogs and companians and live much longer than large dogs. You just have to decide whether you have the time and the patience for a small dog that requires so much care.

I run a forum for Keeshond owners, KeesTalk ( http://www.keestalk.net/forum ), which you should join, and I actually have a lady who has 3 Keeshonden and a Pomeranian and she works a lot and tends to be gone most of the day so I don't see why you can't get one.

I believe Pomeranians are a double coated breed much like the Keeshond so grooming wouldn't be any different than it is right now with your Keeshond.

Poms shed like crazy. if you dont really have time for it right now, i suggest just waiting a little bit until your hectic schedule calms down a bit. on the other hand, your dog will get into the routine of things, most sleep the day all day anyways. as far as the pom getting along with your keeshond, that depends on the personalities of the two. good luck!

Poms tend to like attention. But they're also smart, and pick up on owners' "schedules" easily, i.e., they know when it's a weekday and you're supposed to leave early vs the weekend when you sleep in. So regarding your schedule, as long as you give her the attention while you're there, your pom will probably sleep or play by herself when you're not there.

Since mine has had no real formal training (like obedience school), I can't really tell you much about how yours will get along with 2 younger siblings and another dog. Once the pom gets introduced and comfortable with your family however, they turn out to be very loyal. Sometimes jealous though, like I said, they love attention.

A lot of bark and sometimes bite. Like I said, mine's not trained well so I can't tell you much about dogs that have been thru training, but she's very vocal and expressive about her needs. But she picked up on other training very fast, like becoming house trained only took two days for her. So I'm sure if you train yours, it'll be ok.

Poms shed a lot, they have a peak season (spring transitioning into summer, fall transitioning into winter). Plus, like other people said, they tend to get poo stuck in their butt area, it would be better to get that hair shaved off... ick!

I have to say that they're overall cute dogs, 100% lapdogs. She makes our family laugh a lot of days, and you're guaranteed a longer life than bigger dogs (10-15 years is their average life span). Like any other breed, it has its ups and downs... you have to figure out whether they're right for you or not.

Hope that helps!

Pomeranians are very needy, trust me I know. They need a lot of personal time, and it takes a while to house break them. They need to have their fur brushed out 2-4 times a week. I love my pom but I had a lot of time for him when I first got him. One annoying thing about the breed is with so much fur, when they poop it tends to stick to them. They are also prone to having bad knees and low blood sugar. They are also big barkers.

sounds like she continues to be a puppy. you want to administration them as you would with a new child. they require an same quantity of interest and without you there, they merely does no longer live to inform the tale. if she desires to poop at 3 contained in the morning or 3 contained in the afternoon, its your duty as a to blame canine proprietor to allow her to do it. doggies do usually have a tendency to flow to the lavatory better than adult canine. its something she will be able to strengthen out of, yet contained in the advise time you want to enable her do her company even as she desires to.
