It's an instinctive movement for cats, associated with nursing. When kittens are born, they instinctively seek out their mothers' nipples and begin nursing. To help the flow of milk, the kittens do this kneading motion on their mothers' stomachs, the milk flows, and their teeny kitty bellies get filled. This makes them happy.
If a grown cat kneads you, it's a sign of affection. It means that they are experiencing some of the same emotions they did when they were babies snuggled with their mothers, and this emotion triggers the instinctive kneading behavior.
It can be hard to remember this when my big red bullseye tabby climbs onto my lap, puts her paws on my liver, and tries to shred me into hamburger, but it's really because she's quite fond of me.

RE: Why does my cat knead his paws on my blanket? My cat kneads his paws on in straightforward words my infant blanket and under no circumstances some thing else, except perhaps my comforter. Why does he attempt this? He purrs as he does it. Why not knead different issues? i wager sometimes he kneads me.

Kittens do this to help get the milk from their mother and adult cats do this as a comfort thing from kittenhood. Basically it means they are happy and content when they do this.

Kittens do this when suckling milk from Mamma. It is said to occur in grown cats if they have been pulled from Mamma too soon.
My kitty cat spreads his toes, closes his eyes and purrs when I brush him. I love it.

It's an instinctive/nurturing action, they're making themselves a place to lie down and be comfortable.

They picked that up when they were getting milk. It stimulated milk flow. I think it just makes them feel good later. They also purr loudly.

They do it to relax and because they love you. Or their nails itch.
